Student perceptions of benefits and results of evaluating faculty

The questions asked students in the university on their objectivity in evaluating the form. A five-
point Likert-scale ranging from ``Strongly Agree''± 1, through ``Strongly Disagree''± 5, was used.
The questions were asked through online portal (Google Form) and it is evaluated according to
the answers they provided.
Students agreed that the Internship students should not evaluate in the same criteria as the
regular students. More than 60% of students agreed to that while others had neutral opinion.
Students also mostly agree with the question set for online classes in based on regular classes.
While many students disagree with the fact that the faculty evaluation model is clearly aligned
with the performance expectations of faculties. The students were asked whether the overall
process is revised time to time on situational demands, majority of the students disagreed with
that, as the faculty evaluation questions were always same from the beginning of this process,
and did not change based on the online and offline classes. According to result we also found
out that proper training and evaluation techniques for the process are not made periodically.
The students showed neutral perceptions on the evaluation questions which reflect the human
nature of the faculties. The judgmental attributes didn’t ensure much consistent evaluation of
students. And the feedbacks from earlier courses are taken into considerations regarding
faculty members. As students and faculties do not share the same set of knowledge and
expertise, it will be improper for students to evaluate the faculties only based on their teaching.
It should be focused on intellectualism of the faculty rather than professional behavior and
more 80% of the students agreed on that and others had a neutral review. Based on the
students perception this evaluation should be done in an interview session for optimum
efficiency. So that when necessary, other faculty members and moderators can participate,
gather evidence of progress of students, and carry out formative assessments in at least one
class throughout the semester to understand the faculty’s teaching efficacy.

Through this evaluation we came to know that most of them are not aware of the importance
of the faculty evaluation process and Universities should take steps to aware the students of
the importance of the faculty evaluation process.

These are all the outcomes we got from the Likert-scale ranging. And found out the percentage
of the students agreeing or disagreeing to the situation. Due to time constraint it was done
through online but this evaluation can have more better and precise results if it was done
person to person rather than online.
