INTRODUCTION

You will be looking at the anatomy of the white rat. Believe it or not, the white rat is
similar in composition to a human. It has the same Circulatory system, similar muscles, and a
similar skeletal structure. In this laboratory exercise the anatomy of the white
Rat will be examined in some detail with attention to the complementary body systems.
Materials:

BY GROUP:
📌 Dissecting kit
📌 Dissecting tray
📌 Rat specimen

INDIVIDUAL :
📌 Face mask
📌 Goggles/Face shield
📌 Lab gown/Apron
📌 Hairnet
📌 Alcohol
📌 Surgical gloves

ADDITIONAL THINGS TO BRING:

📌 Wax paper
📌 Wax from candle
📌 Push pin
📌 Gause pads
📌 Tissue
📌 Detergent powder

Procedure: Skinning the Rat

You will carefully remove the skin of the rat to expose the muscles below. This task is best
accomplished with scissors and forceps where the skin is gently lifted and snipped away from the
muscles. You can start at the incision point where the latex was injected and continue toward the
tail. Use the lines on the diagram to cut a similar pattern, avoiding the genital area. Gently peel
the skin from the muscles, using scissors and a probe to tease away muscles that stick to the skin.

RESULTS+PICTURES
The picture attached below, will show the before and after results of the white rat. And
all the abdominal organs.

Here's the picture before

Now this is the result after

We removed the skin of the rat.
This is after we cut the abdomen.

And now here's the abdominal organs.

📌Stomach
📌Heart
📌Spleen
📌Kidneys
📌Lungs
📌Small intestines
📌Colon
This is the results after we removed all
the abdominal organs of a white rat.

CONCLUSION/GENERALIZATION
Rat thorax and abdominal fresh tissue dissection is a useful Teaching tool for human anatomy.
The differences between rat and human anatomy facilitate knowledge transfer and abstraction.
Active organ manipulation encourages memory retention, while suturing offers a clinical
Environment.
