Before
Dissection
Objectives:

Frogs are considered to be amphibians. Although there are significant

distinctions between frogs and humans, both have similar fundamental body
designs. We are able to understand the human body systems better by examining
the frog's anatomy and organ systems.

Roles:

Every action will be hands-on. A member was chosen to begin the

dissection and then alternate. Every member will be given assistance while
they are dissecting. The group has also assigned roles for holding the
flashlight, monitoring the checklists, and documenting the job while other
members observe.

Answering the Pre-Lab Activity:

Materials:

Frog
Gloves
Apron
Dissecting pan
Dissecting Kit
Pins

Preparation:

1. Tie the hair back, put on an apron, and get a pair of gloves.
2. Get the pan and frog
3. Get instruments
4. Lay out the supplies at the lab table, placing the instruments on the
paper towel.
5. Assign who will start the dissection and alternate turns.
During
Dissection
Procedures:

1. Place the frog's ventral side up or on its back in the dissecting pan and pin its
four limbs down.

2. Cut the skin along the midline of the body to the forelimbs and make
horizontal cuts near the arms and legs.

3. Pin back the skin.

4. Cut through the chest bones and make the horizontal incisions, the same as
we did to the skin.
5. Pin the muscle flaps back far enough to allow easy access to the internal
organs.

6. Since the specimen is a female, the eggs are removed to view the organs

7. Locating the organs.

• Fat Bodies

• Peritoneum
• Liver

• Heart

• Lungs

• Gall Bladder

• Stomach
• Small Intestine

• Large Intestine

• Spleen

• Esophagus

7. All the organs have been extracted

After
Dissection
1. Submerge the organs in 70-30 percent water-alcohol solution to keep them
from smelling

2. Frog skin removal

10. Bone and muscle separation

11. Soak the bones in Hydrogen Peroxide (Agua Oxigenada)

12. Arranging the bones and sticking them together
