DRRR: GEOSTORM REACTION PAPER

Dean Devlin directed Geostorm, which was released on October 20, 2017. It is classified as a
science fiction and action movie. Throughout the film, natural disasters are discussed. During
the movie, the world's leaders created a satellite that could protect the planet Earth from
natural disasters. Known as the "Dutch Boy", the satellite controls climates that make people
feel safe and away from disasters. It contributed to preventing natural disasters on Earth, but
Duncan infiltrated the system with viruses and caused it to malfunction. Duncan used the
satellite as a dangerous weapon to conquer the lands of Earth, conquering the enemy's
country instead of protecting it from natural disasters. As a result of Duncan's greed for
power, many countries suffered. As a result of satellite malfunctions, a geostorm can occur.
At the last minute, he managed to transfer control of the satellite to NASA with the help of
Jake, the former commander of the ICSS and former satellite designer. After the satellite has
self-destructed, the planet Earth can finally be assured that engineered natural disasters will
no longer occur.

In natural disasters, an event that significantly harms a community resulting from the
occurrence of a natural hazard is defined as a negative impact. The effects of natural
calamities can be devastating to life and property, as well as to the economy. In spite of the
fact that natural disasters are inevitable since they are caused by natural phenomena, we can
survive and minimize the damage with proper practices and knowledge. This movie portrays
that people can be greedy when it comes to power and there are things on this planet that
can't be controlled especially the natural disasters.
