1. What are the geological events you observed from the video clip.

"2012" is a disaster film that was released in 2009 and depicts a series of catastrophic
events that are said to occur on December 21, 2012, which was a date that many people
believed marked the end of the Mayan Calendar. In the movie, several geological events
are depicted as being caused by a series of massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions
that result in the eventual destruction of much of the Earth's surface.

The movie depicts the following geological events:

1. The cracking and breaking apart of the Earth's crust, which causes massive
earthquakes that level cities and create massive tsunamis.
2. The eruption of Yellowstone National Park, which creates a massive ash cloud
that covers much of the United States and contributes to the destruction of the
Earth's surface.
3. The melting of the polar ice caps, which causes sea levels to rise and contributes
to the flooding of coastal cities.
4. The shifting of the Earth's axis, which causes massive weather patterns and
creates conditions that are unsuitable for human life.

It's important to note that the events depicted in the movie are not scientifically
accurate and are meant to be a work of fiction. However, the movie does raise
awareness about the potential dangers posed by natural disasters and the importance
of being prepared for them.

2. What causes the said geological events to happen?

In the movie “2012,” the cause of the catastrophic geological events is a scientific
phenomenon referred to as “the shift.” According to the film, the shift is a change in
the Earth’s axial tilt that occurs once every 25,800 years and is triggered by an
increase in solar activity. This increase in solar activity causes a buildup of energy in
the Earth’s core, which in turn causes the Earth’s crust to crack and break apart,
leading to massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
The film also suggests that the Mayans were aware of the shift and had predicted its
occurrence in their calendar, which is why the date December 21, 2012 was
associated with the end of the world in popular culture. However, it’s important to
note that this scientific explanation is not supported by mainstream science and is
purely a work of fiction.

3. How can you reduce the risk of the said Geological Events?

As the events depicted in the movie “2012” are not scientifically accurate and are
purely a work of fiction, there are no steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of
these specific events occurring. However, there are steps that can be taken to
reduce the risk of other geological events, such as earthquakes and volcanic
eruptions.

Here are some steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of these types of events:

Building codes: Constructing buildings that are designed to withstand

earthquakes and other natural disasters can help reduce the risk of damage and
injury during these events.

Emergency preparedness: Having a plan in place and being prepared for natural
disasters can help individuals and communities respond effectively and reduce
the risk of harm during these events.

Monitoring systems: Installing monitoring systems that can detect earthquakes

and volcanic activity can help provide early warning and give individuals and
communities time to evacuate and take necessary precautions.
Risk assessments: Conducting risk assessments for potential natural disasters can
help identify areas that are at high risk and allow for the implementation of
mitigation measures to reduce the risk of harm.

It’s important to note that while these measures can help reduce the risk of harm
from geological events, it’s not always possible to prevent them from occurring,
and it’s important to be prepared for the possibility of these events.
