1.3 Important notes

1.3.1 Intended use
The type examined safety valve DSV-A3 is a component of the uninten
ded car movement protection means according to EN81.
Combination of the safety valve DSV-A3 with a detecting component
(e.g. shaft switch) and an actuating component (control) which are sub
ject to individual approvals will constitute the complete protection means
that fulfils the requirements of a safety component according to EN81
Under the provision that the current to the DSV-A3-solenoid is properly
interrupted (⇒Notes on the integration of the safety valve DSV-A3 into
the lift control on page12, chapter1.5.5) and the operational limits are
being observed (⇒Technical data on page8, chapter1.5.3) the requi
rements of stopping distance and retardation according to EN81 are
being fulfilled, independent of volume flow, load pressure and oil visco
sity.
Hence proof of the function of the complete protection means can be
provided by a travel at reduced speed (e.g. inspection travel).
The product must not be handled in any way by unauthorised persons.

1.5.2 Description of function

The safety valve DSV-A3 is an electrically pilot operated check valve for
hydraulic lifts. Installed between the cylinder and the lift valve it enables
the oil flow from the lift valve portP to the cylinder portZ during travel
UP, but inhibits the flow in the opposite direction from Z to P until the
pilot valve (8) is energised.
In case of a mains failure travel DOWN can be released by means of an
optionally available emergency-power winding or by the always avail
able manual release (2).

ATTENTION!
Simultaneous energising of the main coil winding and emergency
power winding will overheat the solenoid.
Risk of damage to the solenoid!
Never energise the main coil winding and the emergency power
winding simultaneously.

ATTENTION!
The plug of the solenoid is potted into the coil socket together with
a rectifier.
The attempt to remove the plug will destroy the solenoid.
By no means detach the plug from the solenoid.

ATTENTION!
The solenoid coil shall be energized while beeing mounted on the
solenoid tube. Energizing whithout the solenoid tube may cause
overheating of the solenoid coil.

CAUTION!

Ambient temperatures above +40°C or insufficient air circultaion

around the solenoid may reduce life of the solenoid and generate
oil degradation. Solenoid shall not be energised permanently

1 General, product description Safety valve DSV-A3

1.5.5.3 Notes on the positioning of the shaft switches dmax

dmax = max. permissible distance of the shaft switch

from the landing

EN81commands that a lift moving DOWN unintentionally with open

door shall be stopped such that
- the distance between the floor of the car and the floor of the land
ing will not exceed 1200mm
- the free distance from the car door lintel to the floor of the landing
shall not be less than 1000mm
Both requirements must be fulfilled simultaneously.
In order to exploit both criteria simultaneously the clearance height of
the open door would have to be 2200mm at minimum. The clearance
height of many car doors is 2000mm only. This reduces the max. per
missible distance between the floor of the car and the floor of the land
ing (i.e. the travel distance within which the lift must have come to a halt)
to 1000mm.
The highest considered speed from which the lift must be stopped by
the safety valve DSV-A3 is the speed slightly below the tripping speed of
the safety gear or the pipe rupture valve. In the worst case this speed is
1.3m/s.

14/30 300-I-9010445-EN-09/07.2016
Safety valve DSV-A3 1 General, product description

The safety valve DSV-A3 is designed such that under consideration of a

speed “vmax” of 1.3m/s, maximum load and most unfavourable oil condi
tions (low oil temperature) the lift will be stopped within 750mm after
de-energising of the solenoid of the safety valve DSV-A3.
Hence the solenoid of the safety valve DSV-A3 must be de-energised
when the lift has travelled no more than 1000mm–750mm=250mm.
The lift control requires a certain time “t” from the detection of a travel
with open door until the solenoid of the safety valve DSV-A3 is de-ener
gised. Together with the highest considered speed “vmax” this gives the
distance “xmax” travelled during the signal processing period “t” accord
ing to the formula xmax=v max•t.
Hence the maximum permissible distance “dmax” between the shaft
switch and the landing position is dmax=250mm–v max•t.

3.2 Electrical connection

ATTENTION!
Incorrect wiring will damage the solenoid.
Connect voltages only according to the type of the solenoid coil
and the prescribed wire assignment.

1. Connect the solenoid of the safety valve DSV-A3 to the lift control,
⇒page10, chapter1.5.4

300-7-10023535

3.3 Connecting the pressure switches

The pressure (optional) switches for measuring the load should be
mounted directly on the DSV-A3. Regardless of the position of the DSV-
A3 valve, the existing cylinder pressure is available at port MZ (with
open ball valve).
Note: If the pressure switches are mounted on the lift control valve, an
incorrect cylinder pressure can be measured if the DSV-A3 valve is
closed. A correspondingly incorrect measurement can occur, particularly
when loading the car or when the oil cools down, and can result in the
lift control system misinterpreting the situation

Safety valve DSV-A3 3 Installation and commissioning

3.4 Startup

Note: After the initial installation air can be trapped inside the safety valve DSV-
A3, particularly when the safety valve DSV-A3 is mounted with the cover (1)
pointing upward.
Air trapped inside the safety valve DSV-A3 can potentially cause oscillations
when the lift starts.
If oscillations occur during lift start:
1. Execute approx. 5 to max. 10 travels, until there are no oscillations
during lift start any more
I If oscillations continue to occur after 10 travels, they will not be caused
by air inside the safety valve. The cause must be searched for some
where else.
2 Alternatively:
1 1. On the lid (1) slacken either the plug screw (2) or the pressure
switch, vent the air, then tighten the plug screw (2) or the pressure
switch to 20Nm again

When installation works are done, prior to commissioning of the lift:

2. Execute the first maintenance of the safety valve DSV-A3,

4 Operation Safety valve DSV-A3

4 Operation

4.1 Normal operation

To enable travel DOWN either the main coil winding or the emergency
power winding must be energised by the lift control at the right time
(⇒page12, chapter1.5.5). Beyond those no parts have to be operated
during normal operation of the lift.

4.2 Manual operation

CAUTION!

The solenoid coil (A) can get hot

Risk of burns!
Touch the red plastic handle (B) only.

1. Observe the instructions in the lift documentation or in the lift valve

documentation for the execution of the manual emergency lowering

2. Pull the red plastic handle (B) on the solenoid of the safety valve
DSV-A3 to the stop and keep it in the extended position

3. Control the travel by operation of the manual lowering (C) on the lift
valve until the landing intended for the evacuation of the car is
reached
A
B When the lift has stopped:
4. Release the red plastic handle (B)

7 Disposal
The safety valve DSV-A3 contains pretensioned springs. The energy
stored in the springs, however, is too low to create a risk during dismant
ling of the safety valve DSV-A3.
According to the knowledge by the time of the creation of this installation
and startup guide a safety valve DSV-A3 that has been cleansed from
hydraulic fluid contains no substances that are subject to special dis
posal procedures.
Dispose of the solenoid coil incl. cable as waste of electrical equipment,
dispose of the rest of the safety valve DSV-A3 as metal waste.
