Key Plan

Existing residential building

The proposed landscape & new garden wall will help
screen views towards and from the ground floor and lower
ground floor accommodation. Various layers of landscape
including facade planting, climbers, clumps of woodland
and taller shrubs form an attractive buffer and outlook
between the residential gardens and the building.

There is the potential for planting shrubs and climbers to

the residential side of the new wall, subject to consultation
with residents.

Sunken Garden: Privacy & Screening North Elevation: Gable Wall

The northeast building elevation, the gable wall, is softened

by fast growing evergreen climbers to enhance views
from the High Street, ahead of future development of the
adjacent plot.

If the meanwhile landscape is to be introduced, this will

provide additional screening and softening with trees and
planting.

Roofscape: Typologies Roofscape: Illustrative Plan

A mixed and diverse rooftop environment is proposed with

accessible amenity spaces and non-accessible biodiverse
and green roofs designed for local habitats.

At the topmost roof levels (Floors 11&12), biodiverse roofs

with a combination of extensive green roof planting and
aggregate habitat are proposed.

The roof landscape makes a significant contribution to the

ecology of the local area, and the mix of green and brown
roof types provides the best opportunity to support a range
of ecology.

Brown roofs consist of rubble substrate and habitat

enhancements, such as log piles, rocks and boulders, giving
many scrub and pioneer species a chance to colonise the
roof. These species are of great ecological importance and
play an important role in species habitat and movement.

Amenity Terrace: Character Amenity Terrace: Illustrative Plan

To the right are precedent images that give the general The amenity terrace, a south facing ‘walled’ garden in the
impression of the proposed landscape character for the sky, continues many of the themes proposed in the sunken
amenity terrace . garden. It provides a calm and quiet place surrounded by
nature with two concentric garden rooms, one of which
offers a larger space for gathering, the other being a smaller
more intimate space covered by an arbor overgrown with
climbers.

The terrace forms its own microclimate, protected from

high winds and the elements by the walls, multi-stem tree
planting, tall shrubs and the arbor structure.

Accessible areas are offset from the perimeter for safety and
to improve privacy as well as creating a noise and visual 05

02 buffer.

07
Openings in the perimeter parapet create framed views
looking out. 01

There is direct access from the amenity space via steps, as

well as an accessible route via a break out terrace space.
