AGNES LOCSIN

Locsin as an Ateneo de Davao student in the late 1970s, collaborated with artists Joey Ayala and
Al Santos for the rock opera, Sa Bundok ng Apo, as a choreographer for Ayala’s music and Santos’ lyrics.
They would collaborate again in Encantada.

After graduating from OSU, she became the artistic director of the Locsin Dance Workshop
which was founded by her mother. She was also part of the faculty of the University of the Philippines
Dance Program and the artistic director of the Ballet Philippines in the Cultural Center of the
Philippines complex from 1989-1999.

Around the 2010s, she began doing choreography for environmentally-themed works such as
Agila and the Puno series.

Locsin has received various awards for her works and contribution to choreography in general.
She was conferred the Gawad CCP Award Para sa Sining in 2013, the Alfonzo T. Ongpin Prize for Best
Book on Arts for her book Neo-ethnic Choreography: A Creative Process and the Gabor Award from the
Cultural Center of the Philippines. The Davao City government also gave her the Datu Bago award for
her contribution to dance and culture.

Her alma mater Ateneo de Davao Unversity nominated her for her recognition as a National
Artist of the Philippines, a move which was supported by the Davao City Council. Locsin was recognized
as such in June 2022.

BALLET MANILA MOMENTS: THE LEGACY OF THE SOUTH

Since 1995, Ballet Manila has been creating unforgettable performances on stage. As the
acclaimed storytellers on toes, they have breathed life to an amazing range of classical and
contemporary.

ENCANTADA

Encantada is set in Spanish-era Philippines and depicts “man’s destruction of nature and its
devastating consequences”. In a performance art form best known for ethereal swans, princesses in
tulle and little girls with fancy kitchen implements that become princes, such an urgent statement, firmly
rooted in reality, qualifies Encantada as a groundbreaking ballet that doesn’t shy away from the issues of
the day.

SAYAW SABEL

The performance is a preview of the regional tour of Sayaw, Sabel, which is being facilitated by
the CCP Outreach and Exchange Division under its Tugon Pansining Program. The tour is slated
September 24-October 10 in Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Ilocos, La Union and Baguio.

Tony Mabesa, known as the Lion of the Theater, was a director, actor, and teacher who greatly
contributed to the growth and diversity of Philippine theater. In the early 70s when he formed
Tanghalang Repertory with various Filipino students in Hawaii, a theater group devoted solely to the
production of traditional and modern Filipino plays and later on staged productions around Honolulu.
Then, upon returning to the Philippines, he joined the Department of Speech Communications and
Drama at the University of the Philippines Diliman, when productions were only staged occasionally.

RAINBOW’S SUNSET

The film tells the story of an 84-year-old man who comes out as gay to his children in his senior
years, to take care of his cancer-stricken lover. Each of his children has his or her own troubles and
victories, and so does his wife, Sylvia and he was torn between his duty on his family, and his true love.
