Art is the father Abraham of a vast number of fields, and one of them being Graphic
Design. But why is graphic design an art, when it doesn't necessarily involve the
use of a traditional paintbrush and ink.
To better understand WHY graphic design is an art, one needs to begin with the
understanding of the two terms, GRAPHIC DESIGN and ART.
Art is a diverse range of human activity, and resulting product, that involves
creative or imaginative talent expressive of technical proficiency, beauty,
emotional power, or conceptual ideas. (Wikipedia)
So basically, Art :
Makes use of visual communication.
Passes across a message or information.
Involves the use of imagination, talent, and/or technical know-how.
Now guess what? Graphic Design has all these elements, all three (3) of them.
In essence, you don't need to paint a "Mona Lisa" before you become an artist, the
use of visual aids to communicate information or instigate an emotion already makes
you a "Da vinci" of the graphic designing world.
