Junta’s peace talks team meets delegation of three ethnic armed groups

Meeting between the junta’s State Peace Talks Team and a delegation led by three ethnic armed groups

(EAO) was held in Nay Pyi Taw in late September, reported the junta’s media.

The meeting was held from September 27 to 30. The delegation of the ethnic armed groups were led by

vice-chairman of the United Wa State Party (UWSP), vice-chairman of the National Democratic Alliance

Army (NDAA) and the vice-chairman-2 of the Shan State Progress Party (SSPP). The junta’s delegation

was led by Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.

The meeting focused on part 1,2 and 3 of the Union Accord, reported the junta’s media. Part 3 of the

Union Accord was signed in the fourth session of the Union Peace Conference (21st Century Panglong)

in August 2020 under the ousted civilian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi.

However, after the junta seized power, peace agreements with many EAO groups were nullified, and

fighting intensified.

Most of the EAOs rejected the offer of peace talks by the junta, which had unjustly seized power.
