Myanmar’s exiled government NUG says its resistance armed groups own anti-

aircraft weapons

While the military junta is aggressively carrying out airstrikes against resistance armed
groups in many areas, the exiled government NUG said in a press conference on Friday
evening that it also has air defense weapons and is ready to launch, and the final battle
against the junta will be fought within a year.

The NUG Minister of Communications, Information and Technology Htin Lin Aung said
that although they did not have enough defense systems to protect every area from air
strikes of the junta, they had such weapons in some areas and they would shoot down
the junta fighter jets there.

The exiled government also stated that together with a variety of invasive attacks, there
would be a year of war to end the military dictatorship.

"Now, we are in a position to protect the general public. We have to protect them,” said
Minister Htin Lin Aulng.

He added that the NUG had collected records of junta’s fighter pilots who killed the
innocent general public by launching airstrikes and when the revolution is successful,
punitive actions will be taken.

NUG said it has received international technical assistance in order to protect people
from the air strike of the junta, in some areas, it has the “Early Warning System” to
detect before airstrikes.

NUG official Nay Phone Latt said that NUG is working with allies to open six battle
fronts and coordinate a one-year plan to speed up the military offensive against the
junta’s army and the final battle is about to take place. He also said that the power of
the people is the most important and necessary for the NUG's strategic operations. He
added that the people will have to face the most difficult times soon, but if all work
together to overcome these difficulties, people will reach their goal.

The junta has designated 2022 as the year of peace and 2023 as the year of elections.
The junta chief Min aung Hlaing said in his speech in August 2022 (on the one and a
half year anniversary of the coup) that the elections will be held in 2023 in a free and fair
manner.

The junta who ignored the results of the 2020 election, in which the ousted National
League for Democracy won, said that it is necessary to end the armed conflict so that
the elections will be held. He also said that the public security system will be enhanced
to stabilize the political and security situations in order to hold the election in 2023.
