Thai police prepares to file lawsuit against arrested Myanmar arms dealer

Thai police are preparing to file a lawsuit against an arrested Myanmar tycoon within 84 days for alleged

drug trafficking, according to news reports.

Presently, the tycoon has been detained in a central prison in Bangkok, Thailand, reported British

Broadcasting Corporation.

The name of the detainee is not disclosed until the lawsuit is officially filed in a court according to Thai

police procedures, said a Thai police officer. Presently, Thai police are preparing to collect evidence

against the tycoon in order to be able to file the lawsuit.

However, a pressure group Justice for Myanmar, which monitors arms sales and organizations that

provide financial support to the Myanmar junta, said that the tycoon arrested in Thailand on charges of

alleged money laundering and trafficking , is Dr. Tun Min Lat, and that he was an arms broker for the

Myanmar junta.

Local news outlets said that a Thai senator’s son-in-law is reported to be among four people arrested in

the police swoop. The senator denied the allegation that he had close ties with Dr. Tun Min Latt.

Despite the Thai senator’s denial, the Thai senator was deeply involved in businesses with Dr. Tun,

according to a report of the OpenCorporates.

The Thai senator and Dr. Tun set up the Myanmar Allure Group in 2000 to operate an illegal casino in

Tachilek, Myanmar’s town in Shan State near the Thai border, according to the report by

OpenCorporates.
