the country of Kenya, the students
will be able to answer and
summarize the important aspects
(education systems, language, and
culture) of the country of Kenya.

Objectives ● Students will be able to

summarize the specific goals
that are assessed at each
grade level in the Kenyan
education system.
● Students will be able to
compare and contrast the
culture of Kenya to the
United States.
● Students will be able to recall
at least three out of the 39
specific languages spoken in
Kenya.

BEFORE:
● The students will be asked
“how many languages are
spoken in Kenya”
● This will activate students'
prior knowledge and begin to
get them thinking about
Kenya.
DURING:
● Students will learn about the
language, culture, and
educational system of Kenya.
● Students will be asked
questions during the
presentation to check for
understanding.
● Then the class will watch a
video about the Kenyian
education system to get a
better understanding of how
 it works and what is taught in
each stage of school.
AFTER:
● After learning about Kenya,
the students will be put into
groups and will create a
semantic map about
everything they learned
about Kenya.
● The students will use their
knowledge of Kenya to
answer:
○ Why might it be hard
for a Kenyan student to
come to a u.s
classroom?
○ What could you as a
teacher do to ease this
transition and keep the
effective filter low?
