PART 1: Choose a member of the group
that will explain one of the Policy
Principles in Assessment as stipulated in
DO No. 31, s. 2020.
JOHN MHARWEIN CALIXTO

Assessment should be holistic and authentic in capturing the attainment of the most essential
learning competencies.

One key feature of such assessments is their authenticity. An authentic assessment requires
students to apply what they have learned to a new situation and requires judgment to determine
what information and skills are relevant and how they should be used. On the other hand, holistic
assessment is the practice of gathering information from numerous sources and providing feedback to
assist and guide learning. It is concerned with ensuring quality and balance in the evaluation system in
order to enhance decision-making and increase student motivation and learning achievement.
Assessment being holistic and authentic are essential in attaining the MELCs for it has a greater
chance that the students will be assessed accurately and appropriately. Through authentic and holistic
assessment the teachers can select what appropriate assessment should be implanted on a specific
learning competency.
KC A. EMPERADO

Assessment is integral for understanding student learning and development.

Assessment is an essential component of instruction since it determines whether or not

educational objectives are met. Assessment influences grade, placement, progression, instructional
requirements, curriculum, and, in some situations, financing decisions. Moreover, assessment procedures
that are well-designed provide useful information regarding student learning. They provide information
about what pupils learnt, how well they learned it, and where they struggled.

Assessment may start from diagnosing what students didn’t know so that teachers will know
what topics they will give emphasis to. Through formative assessment, educators can understand or
know if the students can really follow the lesson. Whereas, in summative assessment, the teacher will
determine if the strategies they implemented are effective and will understand the learning
development of the learners.
JERRY MAE A. RANES

A variety of assessment strategies is necessary with formative assessment taking priority to

inform teaching and promote growth and mastery.

Formative assessments are essential components of the teaching-learning process. They can help
enhance student outcomes if part of a fair, legitimate, and reliable process of obtaining, interpreting
and utilizing information created throughout the student learning process. The purpose of formative
assessment is to evaluate student learning and provide continuing feedback that instructors and
students can utilize to improve their teaching and learning. Formative assessments, in particular, assist
students in identifying their strengths and shortcomings and focusing on areas that require
improvement. Formative assessments include requiring students to sketch a concept map in class to
illustrate their grasp of a topic, submit one or two sentences identifying the main point of a lecture,
or solve a specific problem relating to the lesson on their own.
BELTRAN N. RELADO JR.
Assessment and feedback should be shared responsibility among teachers, learners and their
families.

Feedback is information provided to the learner regarding his or her performance in relation to
learning objectives or outcomes. It should strive to and be capable of improving pupils' learning. By
linking effort and activity with an objective, feedback redirects or refocuses the learner's efforts to
attain a goal.

Giving students feedback entails explaining what they are doing correctly and badly, with the
emphasis on what the pupils are doing correctly. It is most beneficial to a student's learning when they
are given an explanation of what is correct and incorrect about their work.

Involving parents and families in the learning process by providing them with more frequent
feedback on their kid's learning progress and techniques they may use to help their child improve has
been shown to boost student accomplishment.
RENZ A. TAPINIT

Assessment and grading should have a positive impact on learning.

Assessment should not make students feel that there is something wrong with them. Assessment
should not become a source of fear for students. Therefore, assessment should have a positive
impact on them because that is the main purpose of assessment—to improve and develop students.

Also, let us make our students understand that giving grades should become their motivation.
Some students see their grades and achievements as validation of their worth. So we should be
careful about giving the right feedback to our students. If they have questions and clarifications
about the way you compute their grades, They deserve transparency.
PART 2: Discuss these questions with
your group and answer the following.
1. Briefly explain the role and responsibilities of teachers in the teaching –
learning and assessment processes in the new normal.

As educators, we may teach the subject provided in our curricula and academic standards while also
assisting students in developing the necessary skills for modern learners. Because of the uncertainty,
educators can use this time to experiment with project-based learning, flipped learning, maker learning, or
another student-centered learning technique.
To improve their instructional craft, educators must constantly learn, unlearn, and relearn. Every
day, new study discoveries and breakthroughs in teaching approaches are released, but this additional
information is lost in the sea of information overload.
Despite a long tradition of doing so, instructors' responsibility is not to stand in front of students
and demonstrate their intelligence. Instead, an educator's job is to help pupils become self-sufficient
thinkers and doers. Educators must move responsibility for learning away from the teacher and toward
their pupils, where it belongs. Educators must infuse real-world context into their lessons.
Although educators must establish many more duties and responsibilities, these are very practical and
transferable to any academic context - virtual or face-to-face. Although the pandemic is frightening and
upsetting, it is forcing individuals both inside and outside of school to reconsider long-held practices and
transform its outmoded system into a more fluid and responsive approach.
2. Briefly explain the role and responsibilities of parents in the teaching –
learning and assessment processes in the new normal.

Parents have an important role in providing learning opportunities at home and in connecting
what children learn at school with what happens in their lives outside of school. However,
socioeconomic hurdles keep many parents from supporting their children's learning. To remove
barriers to increased parent engagement at home and at school, local ownership and customized
tactics for individual settings will be required.
However, involved parents help their children acquire language and other learning skills by
showing them how to plan, supervise, and be aware of the learning process. Furthermore, if teachers
are aware that their pupils' parents are more interested, they may pay greater attention to them.
Family and parents have an impact on children's academic, social, and emotional development,
which can enrich and improve their educational experiences and outcomes. Involving parents in
assessment can give instructors with helpful information to assist with each child's learning while
also providing opportunity for parents to understand and appreciate their children's efforts,
indicators of improvement, and achievement over time.
3. Briefly explain the role and responsibilities of students in the teaching
– learning and assessment processes in the new normal.

Even in this new normal, each class should establish virtual classroom rules. Students are more
inclined to hold each other accountable when they are invited to contribute to classroom rules. That
might mean fewer teacher-to-student commands and more peer-to-peer course correction for
teachers.
Students should be encouraged to ask questions that pique their interest. Teachers should
confirm this and encourage student input to impact experiential teaching throughout the course of
the year. Students should join the class ready to participate. Full participation enhances learning
opportunities and sets the tone for the classroom. This includes, but is not limited to, asking and
answering questions, completing in-class assignments, and adhering to classroom norms on a
consistent basis.
Students must always recognize that they are members of a learning community. Each person is
responsible for taking ownership of their actions in a way that promotes safe and positive
classroom environments. Student accountability promotes learning and aids in the improvement of
academic performance and achievement.
PART 3: Discuss with your group the
significance of assessment and evaluation
of learning in mathematics then
enumerate 5 specific answers.
Assessment and evaluation are crucial in mathematics education because they frequently define the
mathematics that is valued and worth studying. Furthermore, effective assessment gives critical feedback
about students' mathematical thinking, prompting student and teacher actions to increase student learning.
Here are five (5) significance of assessment and evaluation of learning in mathematics:

Assessment, especially authentic assessment, in math will help teachers to know if the
1 students understand and can apply the process of mathematical concepts and procedures.

Strategies and instructional materials in mathematics are very limited. Consequently,

2 teachers can generate and improve strategies in teaching math and test their
effectiveness based on the assessment given to the students.

Assessment in mathematics will also help teachers to determine students' strengths and
3 weaknesses in a specific topic.
Indeed, mathematics is somehow objective, but evaluation in mathematics is essential for it
4 gives the teacher an opportunity to create assessments that are subjective to students
given that there is a criteria to follow in scoring them.

Evaluation should be an integral aspect of the teaching of mathematics and should be used
5 to inform instructional procedures. Through this, teachers and students are both well-
informed about the end goal of the education process.
