Development of Vehicles Gas Emission Wireless Monitoring System

Presented by: Alejandro, Arjay T. Caampued, Dennis N. Novero Irvin M. Valera, Gilbert C.

1.

General Subject Area: - Air Pollution has been one of the existing and prevailing problems of our

community and the world as a whole. There has been plenty of programs for environmental awareness being created. Schools, Homes and the communities suffer with this problem. Being a part of the community and actively participating in these awareness programs, we are obliged to put up a system that can help give solution to this.

2.

Specific Topic: Vehicles Emission Wireless Monitoring System

3.

Definition of the Topic: This system is designed to monitor gas emission of a particular vehicle operating

within the community and determine whether it has exceeded the standard amount of gas emission per vehicle. A. Importance and Significance Vehicles have been the best used means of transportation for people. With it, we can travel from one place to another with minimal time consumed. It has been a basic necessity and a part of our lives. It uses fuels as energy for its operation, energy that comes from fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal and we have a limited supply of fuel, at some point our current supplies will run out because they take millions of years to form and reserves are being depleted much faster than new ones are being formed. Also vehicles emits gas specifically Carbon Monoxide (CO) which contributes to air pollution.

Air pollution has been a big problem on our community, it resulted to various respiratory illness, which most of those who are affected are children and elder people.

B. Manageability (Scope and Limitation) The study will primarily focus on the monitoring of gas emission of a particular vehicle operating within the society using sensors and controllers applied in an electronic or electrical circuitry in which the researchers are knowledgeable with. The study will be conducted at Rogationist College. The study will include interviews on the vehicle owner / driver regarding the efficiency of the his fuel consumption (fuel combustion) and some observations during the actual operation of the vehicle. The study aims to provide a mechanism that can monitor gas emissions on vehicles. Because of too much gas emitted per vehicles, pollution takes place and the amount of fuel consumed is increased. The Study is limited only on the monitoring part of the gas emission, wherein vehicles emitting excessive amount of gas can be identified. The Study can run in a minimum span of one week, wherein data gathering and observations have been accomplished.

C. Availability of Resources: (source of Information) Information will come from various sources:

Sources of information regarding the construction of the system will be from: o Electronic / Electrical books, as basis for theories and applications and a guide in choosing specific devices and components suited for the system.

o Internet, for available components, alternative components with part numbers and possible supplier or vendor, For sources of related schematic diagrams, datasheets and other circuitry that maybe used as guides. Forums on the internet with experts giving advices or suggestions helpful to the study For the latest technology or system that maybe used as basis

o Professors and Colleagues giving additional insights, suggestions and advices o Newspapers and Electronic magazines

. Expected Output / Objective: The general objective of the study is to develop a Vehicle Gas Emission wireless Monitoring System. Specifically, the study will: 1. Help provide a mechanism that can monitor the amount of gas emitted by a particular vehicle. 2. Will help propagate the awareness regarding air pollution and environmental preservation.

3. Also enable us to justify the knowledge we acquired in studying electronics engineering by providing applications and solutions to existing problems within the community or institution we belong to.
