Efficiency and value for money in schools Strategic management Collaboration Governance School business managers
We are ensuring that the maximum amount of funding possible goes straight into schools budgets where it can make the most difference, but the actual allocation each school receives will vary, depending on its circumstances. All schools should be working to make savings, spending their funds prudently and looking to maximise their resources to invest in teaching and learning. Funding can be invested directly in the front line; schools should have scope to find procurement and back-office savings of around 1 billion while the public sector pay freeze will free up an additional 1.1 billion. Improving efficiency in schools is essential. We need to make sure that all schools are using their resources in the best way possible to provide a high quality teaching and learning environment for all their pupils. Schools have autonomy over the use of their budgets and so it is for heads and governors to determine at school level how to secure better value for money. To enable them to do so, on these web pages we provide a range of advice and online tools which we hope schools will find useful.
