A short synthesis of your ideas: A thesis is a theory or study that is put forward as a premise to be
maintained or proved. It is a long essay or dissertation that needs a survey and questioning to be
proven. An argument is required for a thesis. It is a way of expressing your idea to other people and
explaining it with your facts and resources to claim your answer and information and also to increase
the knowledge of others through your study. Expressing your answer with a theory that needs
supporting details, the study that you did to come up with your information claims that it is a fact and
knowledgeable.

The role of a thesis statement in an academic text is it is a giving a clue to your readers about
how you will defend your topic and what they will be expecting from your claim.

 Why must an academic text have a thesis?


It must have a thesis because it helps you to determine what idea you may emphasize writing.

 Without a thesis, can an academic text prove its point?


In our opinion, it cannot be proved because a thesis needs to have a claim, issue, objective,
and position. You may not make a thesis if you cannot defend your claim.

 In what ways does a thesis statement clarify and explain a writer’s claim?
In a way, the writer knows his/her issue needs to be a claim or conviction, which the writer is
trying to argue. It can be accommodated to the objective to reflect what the writer wants
him/she to accomplish, and the position is the expression of what the writer believes should be
done about the issue.
