Activity 2.
1. The different levels of protein structure are known as primary, secondary, tertiary, and
quaternary structure. The primary structure is the sequence of amino acids that make up a
polypeptide chain. 20 different amino acids are found in proteins.
2. Here are 5 important functions of protein in your body.
 Growth and Maintenance. Share on Pinterest. ...
 Causes Biochemical Reactions
 Acts as a Messenger
 Provides Structure
 Maintains Proper pH
3. When deaminated, amino acids can enter the pathways of glucose metabolism as pyruvate,
acetyl CoA, or several components of the citric acid cycle. For example, deaminated asparagine
and aspartate are converted into oxaloacetate and enter glucose catabolism in the
citric acid cycle.
4. Proteins can be classified as: (a) Simple proteins. On hydrolysis they yield only the amino
acids and occasional small carbohydrate compounds. Examples are: albumins, globulins,
glutelins, albuminoids, histones and protamines.
5. Protein has many roles in your body. It helps repair and build your body's tissues, allows
metabolic reactions to take place and coordinates bodily functions. In addition to providing
your body with a structural framework, proteins also maintain proper pH and fluid balance.
