Golden State Warriors player James Wiseman catches his breath

during the Warriors shoot around at Chase Center on Tuesday, Dec. 7,
2021 in San Francisco, California.

DENVER — In the 8 ½ months since he

underwent surgery to repair a torn right
meniscus, Warriors center James Wiseman
has heard some variation of the same advice
from teammates, coaches, medical experts,
friends and family: Be patient.

Repeated reminders that he is only 20 and

has his entire career in front of him haven’t
made sitting out any easier. On numerous
occasions, while watching his teammates play
without him, Wiseman has become emotional
— not just because he wants to be out there so
badly, but because he doesn’t know when he’ll
finally join them.
