OVERVIEW VIRTUAL

CAMPUS

The economic fallout from Covid-19 has disrupted the career plans for many young EVENT

people in Asia. Some companies have rescinded job offers, while others have gone
PRIMER
through hiring freezes, lay-offs, or even closure. Adapting to this era of rapid change For Virtual Live Events

is one of many challenges that this generation of youth face as they enter the job
market in 2021.

Young people aged 15-24 might not risk developing severe forms of the COVID-19,
yet they are particularly exposed to the socio-economic consequences of the
pandemic. School and workplace closures are leading to learning and training
losses. Major life-cycle transitions are made difficult if not impossible and a lack of
socialization with peers, and lasting uncertainty about the end of the pandemic are
impacting the mental well-being of young people. This will have durable
consequences both on their personal and professional lives. Young women, youth
living with disabilities, youth from disadvantaged background, and all those in
informal or self-employment will have to confront the greatest challenges.

Skills development has a key part to play in fostering the resilience of young people.
It is crucial for all stakeholders to ensure the continuity of skills development,
especially through distance training (taking digital divides into account), to
guarantee the safety of trainees and workers, and to introduce training
programmes to bridge skills gaps.

Now in its 12th year, DEVCON Philippines continue its mission in providing learning
opportunities to the community through one of its core programs - Campus
DEVCON.

Campus DEVCON's goal is to augment the academic learnings of students taking

up Computer Science and other IT related programs to keep them updated with
the latest trends and practices in the tech industry. It aims to bring together bright
minds in tech industry and connect them with future geeks of the country and
initiate meaningful conversations that might spark ideas and inspiration to
students.

Given there’s still such uncertainty surrounding public events around the world, and
in the interest of public health, we have made the decision to keep the Campus
DEVCON event fully online which will happen on August 28, 2021 Saturday, 1:00 -
4:00 pm GMT+8.

This event is organized by DEVCON Philippines, a volunteer organization that

reaches over 30,000 online community members and promotes growth and
competence of Filipino developers. To know more about DEVCON, you can

With the theme "Reimagining Youth Skills Post-Pandemic", we are featuring

subject matter experts whose technologies, practices and advocacies have made a
significant impact in the IT industry and whose expertise can help our university
students reimagine their future and inspire them to take action and look beyond
the COVID-19 crisis.
