Based on your reading on the various notable African literature , write what you have learned on
them .you may write your response on the right column of the table below.

Tittle of Literature My learning

1.Things fall Apart The story itself was interesting, how the writer
describes an African village before Europeans
coming and changing everything. About a person
who doesn’t want to be like his father and he does
anything to show he is strong like when he killed
Ikemefuna, a boy who Okonkwo brought to his
village as a gift from another village and was
adored to him. The story is telling us the relation
between the culture and people, like Okonkwo,
and how much is the culture important that when
he feels that it is in danger he couldn’t bear the
situation and hung up himself. Or when he had to
leave anything in his village, because of a mistake,
for seven years. The writer is telling us the story of
Okonkwo's life, and how culture is important to
get to the point when the white people came, so in
my point of view that is why it is boring to me,
Achebe could have made it shorter but more
interesting to get to that point.

At the end of the book we can see Okonkwo is the

only person who cares about the village’s tradition
and culture, and the writer by killing him, made
this clear that the tradition is killed, too. Although
the book wasn’t really interesting to me, all in all, I
enjoyed reading it and learned things about
African cultures and traditions, and the human
relationships, which is really important even in an
old African clan.

2 .The Wrestling Contest between the cat and the The story made me realize how beneficial, and at
Tortoiseshel the same time, of how fragile friendship is. It
taught me to value the existence of my ever-
supportive friends who havenever failed to uplift
my mood every time I feel uninterested and
forlorn. The story was some what accurate in
terms of how a close relationship can be easily
broken through deceitful thoughts and
backstabbing actions. My friends and I have never
been so attachedto a problem such as the one
stated in the story. Our strong will and devotion to
remain asfriends in spite of the harsh difficulties
and trials that life throws at us keep us strong
andunited. We merely shrug off most of the
problems that hinder our development as a
wholeand as a family because we strongly believe
that with enough cooperation anddetermination,
nothing remains impossible to achieve. The story
also made me realize the true reason of why
individuals establish a relationship. They become
friends because theyhave learned to fully trust one
another to securely treasure everything that must
remain asecret. I consider friendship a didactic
relationship because as we continue our journey
as our individuals, we encounter problems that
only people with enough inspiration anddevotion
can solve

we are those people. And it is because of these

challenges that we are able to fully appreciate one
another’s company. To make things short, the
story dug deep into my mind and placed a very
comprehensive and understandable concept
thatcompletely changed my recently-revise
understanding of friendship.
3.The Leopard a story about courage among the characters. In
the story, it was mentioned that the characters are
Pygmy people that are short in stature. Luesi is
from another village who wanted to visit her
mother. Ki agreed and gave Luesi a piece of meat
to take with her.

4.Anticipation I have learned to love more and appreciate the

people who loves me so much. Let’s be contented
of what we have and not anticipate for things that
are unreachable and are not there.

5.Africa In this poem he gave a message to African people

to urge and bring about the change & freedom in
verses; “Is this your back that is unbent, this back
that never breaks under the weights of
humiliation, This back trembling w/ red scars and
saying yes to the whip of under the midday sun

6. To Whom Should I Speak Today Actually, I have gone to deep thinking with this
matter even before I have read this poem. It
always linger in my mind, and I am in the thought
that aggrees with that. Yes, I often that feel that
way when I am deep misery and I could feel that I
couldn't depend to anybody. I feel so alone, and
i'm afraid of confining my problems with the
people around me for they might condemn me for
my regrets. Often, I would prefer to talk with
stangers because somehow i'm opening my doors
for a new perspective. Nevertheless, these
strangers may not know my story but at least they
could relate to it and make resolutions to what i'm
going through..And what we should always expect
from the different chapters of our life. We may
have comrades as we begin our journey and
sometimes we have to realize that there are
certain people who are meant to stay in our hearts
but not in our lives.

7.Tale of Sinuhe I have learned that this story shows patriotism,

loyalty and mercy. Sinuhe even after fleeing from
Egypt wishes to return home to be buried,
showing pride and loyalty to his nation. The king
shows loyalty, mercy and even rejoice when He
recieved Sinuhes message of returning home by
re-establishing his official title, sparing his life from
fleeing and giving him a burial he wanted and
deserved.
