COPING SKILLS

Coping skills are interventions you can use to help mange difficult feelings,
moments, or events. Some can help you calm your body and mind; others
help you focus or stay in the moment. Here’s one that you can do if you’re
feeling anxious, overwhelmed and want to calm down.

The Grounding Exercise

 Close your eyes for a moment and take a few deep breaths

 Look around you and take in the view and your

surroundings. Name 5 things you can see.
 Next, listen to the noises around you.
Name 4 things you can hear.
 Then, focus on what you can smell.
Name 3 things you can smell.
 Next, feel your body and any sensations it might be
experiencing. Name 2 things you can feel.
 Last, focus on your sense of taste.
Name 1 thing you can taste.

When you are done, take a moment to reflect on how it felt to

tune in to your senses and be in the moment.

Remember:
5 things you can see
4 things you can hear
3 things you can smell
2 things you can feel
1 thing you can taste
