there is a definite shortage of sufficient material. So I
have tried to give you some detailed picture of officer-

different from other living elements on this earth.
We can observe things with our analytical mind,
take correct and perfect action according to any
situation. We have made tremendous progress in
modern life. But still, we have a lot of
shortcomings or defects. The negative side of a
human being cannot overlooked. Due to the single
negative attitude of a leader of any country this
earth can become poisonous and hazardous, We
have experienced it so many times in human
history. Being a Defence Leader We need some
special quality like a Hero of Indian Hindi Movie. In

 Receiving A Call Letter From Service
Selection Board

Normally when any defence aspirant has received

SSB Call letter .for Selection Centre. then he/she
suddenly wakes up, tries to gather a lot of books
and start for physical exercise and they thought
within the span of two tho three months he will be
ready to clear SSB interview. If you are also doing
the same or planned the same then you are going
in the wrong way. To become an officer in the
Indian Armed Forces is not a simple process like
an SSC or CGL or other civil examinations. In civil
job best person chooses from options, but in
Defence Forces only fit person are chosen from
the crowd. So you must have possessed all the
qualities of an officer. In something, when your
computer hard disc is hanged then at that time
you started disc defragmentation. Similarly, if you
wish to become an Officer in the Armed Forces,
then you must have taken that decision well in
advance during career planning at least one to
two year will be given to introspect, groom
yourself. You need to refresh your inner system,
restart to your inner system, the transformation of
your whole body and mind from a status to a
special status ie called Officer like Qualities. Only
reading a few books like this or watching some
videos on YouTube you cannot insert all the
qualities in your body or mind, you need to serious
work on it. When an person fall in sick and visits a
clinic, his whole body are being scanned for
diagnosis detection, after detection medice course
are started. Similarly in our society no one is fit or
perfect, there is always scope for correction or
improvement, that will be accepted and working to

 Officer Like Quality No 1 Effective
Intelligence

Effective Intelligence is the intelligence utilized in

coping with practical situations of varying
complexity. It is not like basic intelligence which is
the capacity to perceive relations or to do abstract
thinking, Basic intelligence is assessed by the use
of intelligence tests may be verbal or nonverbal
effective intelligence. It comprises of Practical
Intelligence and Resourcefulness. Practical
intelligence. The capacity to evolve independence
solutions to practical problems and situations.
Resourcefulness.The capacity to use the available
means for the desired end with the help of
improvisation of resources and finding a solution
when in a tight corner.

 Officer Like Quality No 2 Reasoning Ability

Reasoning ability is the ability of a person to

grasp a given situation and arrive at the
conclusion by rational thinking. It can be
considered a problem-solving ability. You cannot
solve any particular problem without thinking
about why and how about the problem. The
reasonability is to be considered the exclusive
ability of your brain function that makes something
great at problem-solving. This is one of the most
important qualities you should have posses to
become an officer. You will get a lot of questions in
your SSB interview. Interviewing Officer will ask
you why you will join Armed Forces, then you
have to give the right answer, logical, real,
matching with your career, profile, your thought
process. Remember that your interviewing officer
had already taken an interview of more than 2000
gentlemen and you cannot give them wrong or
incorrect input or reply. The office may ask you to
give 2 negative and 2 positive qualities of your
parent, then you have to give a real and correct
answer. They will find out your reasonability from
questions like this. There are no coaching institute
or any book you give a detailed discussion on this
ability. You have to understand this quality. You
start thinking wisely, logically, perfectly,
consciously. Know yourself. Stand in front of a
mirror, ask yourself who are you, how can improve
yourself, you start to practice a disciplined life. You
need to de-construct every situation and find out
its hidden issues and find out bias and
manipulation and make the best decision. If you
find out the outcome is negative then increase
your critical thinking power and find out the motive
behind it or detailed reasons for the negative
outcome. You must have gathered all
interconnected information about the fact to
decode it or to solve it. You may formulate your
questions list for the problem. You must have an
approach with a clear view. You may gather a lot
of information about the situation. It will help to
find out clear concepts, assumptions, and
interpretations. Seriously consider the
implications. You may explore other points of
view. After considering all these above aspects,
take a final decision about the situation by using
your own mental ability, then you will find the
correct and right facts about the situation. Exactly
this the quality of your reasonability which will
consider you a highly sensible and perfect human
being. It will be noted that reasoning ability is not a
technique but it is a state of mind. You can work

This quality of any leader is very important.

Organizing ability will be considered one of the
milestones of your characters, without this quality
you cannot command troops. Organizing ability is
your ability to organize or manage a situation by
using your available resources to give the best
output. You may have assigned any task, you
must have completed the task in a manner where
there will be zero tolerance. Your failure will not be
accepted at any cost. When you will be in PPDT
or when you will be in a group discussion the
assessors will closely monitor your organizing
ability. How you can organize any task? you must
demonstrate your organizing ability in a such
beautiful manner that you must be satisfied that
you have given the best result. You must need to
work hard to manage a group. Your success in
any assigned task depends on the performance of
every group member. So it is very important to
train your group, give some demonstration for the
successful completion of the assigned task. It is
your responsibility to upkeep the morale of your
group. You have to work out properly for it.
Consciousness, proper planning, distribution of
works, monitoring of work, troubleshooting ability,
and many more minor aspects to be ensured.
You must be very conscious about difficulties that
can be faced during the task, resources visible or
hide to overcome difficulties can be taken into
consideration during planning to achieve the
desired goal. Your planning always may work
properly if some practices are not made during the
execution of the final task. For example, you have
given the responsibility to organize a friendly
football match with the civil team, when the match
will to start one informed you that 4-5 players of
your team are not physically fit, so in this situation
what you will do, if you have some backup plan, if
you have some reserve player then you will very
easily handle, otherwise, you may embarrass your
organization which will not be accepted at any
cost. So in every task, you need to work out all the
possible difficulties and some methods to
overcome it. You have to prioritize your tasks. You
may take some tasks in your hand and in some
tasks, you can delegate it to someone. You must
be energetic, courageous, and confident and have
possessed super knowledge of every aspect of
the task. You must have calculated the importance
of the event when you take it with utmost sincerity
you will be more conscious to organize the things.
You may seek opinions from your team member
for successful completion. Increase your
interaction with new people, it will increase your
knowledge and information.

 Officer Like Quality No 4 Power of
Expression

The power of expression is the ability to express

any thought process in a logical and perfect way.
It has two component ie thoughts and ideas you
have and the ability put in function so everyone
can easily realize. So the thought and idea must
be of high quality. Your idea and thoughts must
have a higher value. It may be related to your
society or your country but it must be of higher
quality. Then when you are expressing your idea
your language will be in a way that listeners must
listen to it with interest. So it depends on your
ability to express. Your feeling on the aspect must
be in the right way. You must be a happy
individual. Your language must be simple, sweet,
clear audible, easily understandable, having
definite clarity. You may improve your power of
expression in a certain language like English in
various ways. You must have improved your skill
in quality in that language. You may have built a
regular habit of reading newspapers, listening to
English news, and must try to write in your
language after articulate it and record it when you
will record your own pronunciation, you must have
found some mistake and you can easily
understand the scope of correction. Learn to
frame sentences in an artistic way. See some
motivational movies, documentary videos, listen to
great leaders like Field Marshal Manekshaw. You
need to increase your listening habit, high quality
of listening habits. In your SSB interview
everywhere you have to speak, your power of
expression will be the deciding factor. When you
will be in process of learning of the language
when you will be in process of improving your skill
you may get insulted from anyone, take it
positively, you must take it strongly, firmly so you
can remove all of your shortcomings and to come
out in a stronger way. Regularly speak out in front
of the mirror, self evaluate your performance,
improve it, improve it, and improve it. One day you
will found yourself a quality expressive leader,

yourself for it.

 Officer Like Quality No 5 Social Adaptability

Social Adaptability is the ability to form and

maintain friendship according to the norms of
one’s peer group reflects the level of social
competence of any person. It’s an adjustment and
adaptation to humans to other individuals and
community groups working together for a common
purpose. Social adaptation occurs in the process
of socialization and also with the aid of
mechanisms of social control, which include social
pressure and state regulation. social adaptation
becomes increasingly significant when a social
change affects important aspects of life over
comparatively short periods of time. Such
changes include migration, changes in age, rapid
industrial development, and major shifts of the
population from the country to the city. In a
socialist society, the process of social adaptation
requires study and concentrated action. The
failure of certain individuals to adapt, combined
with specific unfavorable situations, may
adversely affect the individual’s conduct. It is
useful to study crime from the point of view of
unsatisfactory social adaptation in order to
understand the causes of crime and to fight crime
effectively. A person who is socially in adaptive
could be shy, withdrawn, or aggressive. The
manifestations are: Difficulty in joining a group
conversation Unable to see how his/her behaviour
could affect the group Unable to see if his/her
behaviour has caused any problem talks about a
happy event with a stern expression gets into a
fight for even a minor incidents

 Officer Like Quality No 6 Cooperation

Cooperation is the action or process of working

together to the same end. It carries vast meaning
in Defence. Being a defence leader you must
carry this quality. If you have not posses or if you
have a defect on this aspect then you cannot
become a defence leader. We are fighting
combined against our enemy. Our efforts are
collective and result oriented. If you thing
individually, then we will not succeed in any vision
or mission. Any compromise on cooperation will
definitely bring you the grave danger not only for
you but for your men. So you must clear from the
psychological point of view that you are going to
joining defence forces and in defence forces,
there is almost every work to be completed by the
group. Coordination between team members, your
helping nature will give you the respect, name and
fame. Whenever you will be a successful person
in Defence Forces that will only be possible for
your team. We are all social and having a very
realistic experience in teamwork in our own house
or in our society on teamwork. It is proven theory
that there is no other alternative of teamwork.

 Officer Like Quality No 7 Sense of
Responsibility

sense of Responsibility is one of the most

important qualities that must have posses by
every aspirant. When you are going to become a
Defence Leader, your responsibility will be to
safeguard your motherland, protect people of your
country. When we are part of a family, from the
very beginning of early age we all perform some
responsibility as family members. Certain times,
when we failed to perform the particular duties or
denied to perform particular duties that are
performed by other family members. But when
you are a defence leader. you cannot deny any
responsibility given to you as it will a serious
adverse effect on mass and hundred of people.
You cannot show your lackadaisical approach to
perform the assigned duties. You must be very
clear from every angle about your responsibility
and you have to perform your task at any
circumstances even in the difficult and stressful
environment with fewer resources or without
resources. This will be only possible when you
have clear vision. When you have the passion to
do something for the people of the motherland. So
the sense of responsibility is not a simple word. It
is carrying vast meaning and weightage. You must
understand it. When I was walking across the city
road, I have observed that a six-year-old boy is
giving milk to a 15-month girl child, it touches my
heart and I asked where is your mother, the boy
told that her mother had died with a road accident
and his father had died two year ago due to
serious disease. Now no one is there family, and
the boy doing some shoe polishing and taking
care of his 15-year-old sister. What will happen, if
he failed to manage the daily basic need of food
for his sister? It touches my heart I surprised the
level of sense of the responsibility and the
circumstances under which mental agony are
suffering by the boy. Can you imagine? We have
seen in our joint family people have no
responsibility or not taking responsibility ever after
marriage and children. So a sense of
responsibility is one serious matter you just need
to realise. Being a defence leader, you cannot fail
in any condition. You cannot pass your
responsibility to others. You must have posses
serious kind of quality. You will need to do some
extraordinary task by taking responsibility
voluntarily in the interest of people of India. Can
you do? You have to introspect yourself, you have
to take every small and minor responsibility from
the very beginning to become a responsible
person. You cannot be trained by any special
training, it is a gradual process. If you are taking
care your brothers, sisters, mother and father in
your home, if you are very conscious about every
difficulty of your near and dear one in your home,
if you are capable and have performed a lot of
duties in your home, then you may consider a
responsible person who has a high degree of
sense of responsibility. Introspect yourself, stand
in front of a mirror, ask you are you dutiful, what
options is being provided by close ones like a
brother, sister, father and mother and other elders
in your house. If you think that there is a lot of
scope for improvement, you wake up start working
on yourself. Start taking care of others, Start
taking responsibility, after some time you find
yourself one of the best people in your house, in
your society, in you are. You must show some
serious courage and willing power to do
something for others overlooking your ease and
comfort. You must be loyal and discipline and
perfect one. Timely completion of any assigned
task in a very successful manner or way will be
considered you are a responsible person. You
have to some action-oriented after following very
rules and regulations. You have to evaluate the
consequences of failure for non-performing
assigned tasks. Suppose you have given the
responsibility to take care of 20 children for 10
days and if you failed to perform the assigned
task, then the life of these 20 precious children will
be in danger, so in this duty, you cannot be
overlooked. You have to complete your assigned
tasks at any cost. During performing the task, you
may face some difficulties, but you must have a
sense of responsibility to overcome it by using all
possible and available resources. So you must
have the ability to troubleshoot in any way. You
may have got multiple tasks at one time, you need
not worried, you have to prioritization of all your
assigned tasks and to complete one by one either
by yourself or by taking the help of some reliable
person or resources. In certain times, even after
doing hard work, your action may be criticized due
to various reasons, at that time, you must remain
calm and must be focused on your work and will
complete the task at any cost. For example during
the middle of your task, one of your senior came
to inspect the task or to know the progress of the
task, and he showed her disgrace and threatened
you for not doing the right way, during this type of
situation you must not worried, take all positive
way, take help of others, take suggestions of
others including from your seniors and at the end
of the task satisfy them with your task. If you can
prove your personality through your task, who
criticized you, who had threatened you, he will be
compelled to change his decision about you and
you will be fully respected by all, it will only be
depending on your focus, on your attitude, on your
hard work and on your ability.

Social Effectiveness
 Officer Like Quality No 8 Initiative

Being an Armed Forces aspirants you must have

posses all officer like qualities. Initiative. If you are
passionate and capable then you must have
possessed ` lot of initiatives in your characters.
When we are talking about the quality 'Initiative'
you must do things without being told, you keep
going even in the harsh and rough situation. You
must be focused, in case of any opportunity arisen
will grasp that which has left by others. You must
believe in action rather than giving a reaction.
Your thinking power will be different from others,
you will definitely not be self-centric. You will be
loyal towards your country, towards your society,
towards your family members. You must have a
hardworking. You will always consider helping
others. In this world, every person conscious of
the word 'Me' but very few people are thinking
about 'Others'. What type of human being are
you? You have to break the safety circle and come
out from this self-centric world to the real world
where you will be considered a good leader and
human being. Thousands of people's lives can be
changed by your small initiatives. Every person in
this world is doing work, a task assigned them,
only a few people are helping others to complete
their work without any profit or interest after
completing his own work. What type of people are
you?

 Officer Like Quality No 9 Self Confidence

If I ask you can you swim and you never learned

swimming and you are giving a reply yes I can
swim, then it will not be considered as a self-
confident person, it will be considered as
foolishness which will harm you, you may drag
yourself in great danger. As a Defence Leader,
you must have possessed self-confidence. You
need to work on it. Self-confidence can be
achieved through hard work, improving your skill.
You have to understand self-esteem also. You
can increase your self-esteem from your self-
confidence. If you have confidence that will be
clearly visible in your face in your expression. You
have to love passion, do something with passion,
then you may increase your self-confidence. You
need to concentrate on any topic, you must be
focused, hardworking. To increase self-
confidence, you need to practice in the right
direction to increase your self-confidence. But
noted that you never will be overconfident. You
must have gained your knowledge to increase
confidence, you need to do the contentious
practice. You need not follow any person or any
book to increase your level of confidence. You
only follow the right person and right book who are
specialists in that particular field. Right knowledge,
the right information, systematic regular practice
will increase your level of confidence. It is not
necessary to get immediate results from your
practice. You must be clam, success may come
after a long struggle, you must believe yourself, if
you are confident, you are hard-working, if you are
doing hardworking on right directions, if you are
focused, if you are getting information from the
right source, then no one can stop you. The whole
world can stop you for a few times but not
permanently. One day you will get your desired
result. I think you are now clear about self-
confidence and self-esteem. You must avoid
theoretical knowledge for confidence. you mainly
focus on practical knowledge

 Officer Like Quality No 10 Speed of Decision

Speed of Decision is one of the vital quality is

required to be posses by any officers of Armed
Forces. In this world, every human being has
some level of quality to take the right and
appropriate decisions according to situations. We
all of us are making decisions in everyday life. But
the decision making power of a Military Leader is
different from others. Let us try to understand with
an example. One proposal has received by the
office of BDO to repair a river Bridge which need
fund of Rupees Fifty Lacs. The BDO has taken
two weeks' time to consider the project and finally
submitted the proposal to higher authorities to get
it sanctioned. Due to procedures and formalities, it
took another 30 days. Finally, after another 30
days, the work has commenced. It is a scenario of
the civil department. Now try to understand this
type of situation for men in uniform. The team
deployed in a particular area of Arunachal
Pradesh has observed that the 105 years old
bridge over a river looks like a serious type of
damage symbol and this is the only bridge in this
area to connect forward strategic area, hence it
needs to be repaired on urgent basis. On receive
information from the team, the local military leader
has passed the fact with a higher senior officer to
discuss how to be coop up with the situations.
Within another one hour after discussion with civil
administration, it is revealed that the civil
department cannot repair it on an urgent basis
due to certain reasons, and they confirmed that it
will be repaired within a week. As an Officer at
this time what you will do? Will you wait for
another week and will wait for a serious type of
accident? Is there any other options are left for
you, you are a good leader and having some
higher quality you may consider, physical
inspection by your own team comprising of Military
Engineers, calculation of damage, calculation of
time, approximate cost to repair it, alternative
options for emergency action like completely take

considered as a compelling force for others to
follow your character, behavior, thoughts. As a

cannot collapse, you cannot surrender, you need
to continue under this stressful and unfamiliar

I am telling you it is very simple when you have

courage, you cannot serve the nation. The
meaning of the word 'Courage' is the ability to do
something that frightens one. Courage is the

ability power to take a calculated risk with a
serious objective. One of your friends told you to
jump from a long tree and just did and broke your
leg. It is not courage, it is foolishness. So you
must clear about foolishness and courage. I often
listen that I can dedicate myself for my country,
being a defense leader you may do some
extraordinary task to save people of India,
sometimes even your life can be lost but it not
mean that you have joined to dedicate your life.
Your attitude must be clear. You need to keep safe
yourself almost at all times. Your precious life
must be protected by yourself. You may face life-
threatening situations, but you must be able to
save yourself and your people and troops and for
that purpose sometime you may need to show
your courage but that will be purposive where
some calculative risks may be there. Level of
courage is varied from person to person and
organization to organisation. Civilians are climbing
Himalaya they have some type of courage so they
are doing it. Some gymnastic person is
demonstrating a serious type of difficult task. Both
can be lost their life for their act of courage. But
the courage of a defence leader is completely
different. Let's try to understand with an example.
When some terrorists had entered the Taj Building
in Mumbai, a defence team was called to handle
the situation. Being a defence leader we have
seen serious action against terrorists. The
purpose of the task was to save innocent people
from terrorists. When they were on a mission, few
defence leaders lost their life. They showed the
highest level of courage. Indian Armed Forces one
of the most courageous force in this Globe. So to
become a part of this prestigious you need to
show the highest level of courage. You must be
physically fit and mentally robust which will give
you any kind of courage to protect and save
innocent peoples from any kind of threat. Your
level of courage only can be improved by taking
some risks with the aim to help someone to
protect someone. Your courage will be tested in
the coming days. When all the stakeholders are
failed to achieve any target, then only then called
reliable defence, at that time you need to start

only because of their determination. So
determination is one of the qualities that must
have posses by every leader. Time Punctuality
can foster and increase your determination. You
can give the maximum for your goal. For example,
if you have given time to your friend to meet at 10
AM. Suddenly you have got another urgent
commitment that needs to be finished before 11
AM. Then what you will do, if you are not a good
passionate human being, then you will call your
friend and tell that you will not be able to meet him
in the given time, he may late for 30 minutes or
one hour due to some urgent commitment, if you
are a passionate and strong determined person,
you will firmly stand on your commitment. You
complete your sudden arisen commitment by
doing some extra hardworking or by taking the
help of other reliable people and resources and
will meet your friend as per the given time. This is
the difference between a simple man and a
strongly determined leader. To become a strong
determined leader, you have to change your habit,
you need to refrain from wasting time like
unnecessary comments on social media. I have
given only one example. You may have hundreds
of bad habits that you need to change which will
prove and ensure that you are a determined man.
You must have done some physical exercise on a
regular basis which will give your strength and
determination and firmness towards your goal,
then very easily you will be very close towards
your goal. Remember one thing, you will get a lot

your SSB interview related to your determination.
So you must work hard and change yourself,
improve yourself. You must specify your goal, set
big targets, work hard, and achieve it through your
hard work and strong determination. You must
have psychologically strong so that you can
overcome any obstacle very easily. If you are firm
and strong determined towards your goal, no one

goal-oriented tasks, one of your friends called you
and suggested going for a movie within half an

make some habit of dedication, remember that
you cannot achieve anything in life from the
comfort zone, you have to break the circle of the
comfort zone, certain times you need to skip some

to work towards achieving your desired dream or

lot of things from your positive attitude of your
