1.1 Changes of the GSM Spurious Suppression Filter User Guide
This section describes changes of the GSM Spurious Suppression Filter User Guide.
1.2 Overview of the GSM Spurious Suppression Filter
This chapter describes functions of the GSM spurious suppression filter.
1.3 Installing the GSM Spurious Suppression Filter
This chapter describes how to install the GSM spurious suppression filter. The GSM
spurious suppression filter can be installed on poles, walls, and cable trays based
on different scenarios.
01(2011-08-30)
This is the first commercial release.
In many live network scenarios in China, a GSM network (common and railway-
specific) is near to a railway communication network. However, the frequency
band (935 MHz to 960 MHz) used by the GSM network and that (925 MHz to 935
MHz) used by the railway communication network lack interval protection. To
secure the railway communication network, a spurious suppression filter must be
installed on the GSM base station side (Filter code: 27120041).
Figure 1-1 shows the appearance of the GSM spurious suppression filter.

Context
Each support of the GSM spurious suppression filter has two square holes for
installation.
Hoop irons are delivered with the GSM spurious suppression filter.
Procedure
Step 1 Open the hoop iron, as shown in Figure 1-8.
NOTICE
You must wear gloves in the installation because the hoop iron may hurt your
hands.
Step 2 Put the hoop iron through a pair of square holes on the upper support, as shown
in Figure 1-9.

Step 3 Put the hoop iron through a pair of square holes on the lower support, as shown
in Figure 1-10.

Context
The GSM spurious suppression filter has two supports, one upper and one lower.
Each support has two slotted holes through which expansion bolts fix the filter on
the wall.
M6 expansion bolt assemblies (four PCS) are delivered with a GSM spurious
suppression filter.
Procedure
Step 1 With the supports tightly placed to the wall, use a level to ensure a level position
of the filter and use a marker to mark the anchor points as shown in Figure 1-11.
Step 2 Drill holes at the marked anchor points, and install expansion bolt assemblies as
shown in Figure 1-12.
(1) M6 bolt (2) nut (2) Spring washer (3) Flat washer (4) Expansion
tube
1. Select a Ф8 bit to drill holes at the marked anchor points. Ensure that the
hole depth is between 55 mm and 60 mm and all the holes have the same
depth.
CAUTION
To prevent dust from being inhaled or coming into contact with your eyes,
take adequate measures when drilling holes.
2. Use a vacuum cleaner to clear the dust inside and around the holes. Measure
the inter-hole spacing. If the inter-hole spacing is too wide or too narrow,
locate and drill holes again.
3. Tighten the expansion bolts slightly and insert them vertically into the holes.
4. Use the rubber hammer to hammer an expansion bolt until the expansion
tube is all in the hole.
5. Take out the M6 bolt, the nut, the spring washer, and the flat washer one by
one.
NOTICE
After disassembling an expansion bolt assembly, ensure that the top of the
expansion tube is on the same level as the wall to make sure that the filter
will be fixed closely on the wall.
Step 3 Mount the filter on the wall with holes on the support fit into the installed bolts,
as shown in Figure 1-13.

Context
Figure 1-15 shows the size of the GSM spurious suppression filter. Select screws
according to actual situation.
Bolts, nuts, flat washers, and spring washers are not delivered with the filter,
please purchase them before installing the filter.
Procedure
Step 1 Install the filter on the cable tray and tighten the expansion bolt with a wrench as
shown in Figure 1-14.

Context
The following table describes the configuration of cable of GSM spurious
suppression filter.
Procedure
Step 1 Installing cables of the GSM spurious suppression filter. Figure 1-16 shows cable
installation of the GSM spurious suppression filter.
(1) Feeder, 1/2" (2) RF jumper, 1/2" (3) PGND cable, 16 mm2
(0.025 in.2), OT terminal
Step 2 Waterproof the connectors of the feeder and RF jumper by referring to Figure
1-17.
NOTE
● Before wrapping waterproof tape, stretch the tape evenly until the width of the tape is half
of its original width.
● Wrap each layer of tape around the connector tightly and neatly, and ensure that each layer
of tape overlaps more than 50% of the preceding layer.
1. Wrap each connector with three layers of waterproof tape, from bottom up,
then from top down, and finally from bottom up. Start the wrapping at the
position 50 mm (1.97 in.) away from the bottom of the connector. Do not cut
the tape until all the three layers of the tape are already wrapped. Wrap each
layer of tape around the connector tightly.
2. Wrap each connector with three layers of PVC insulation tape, from bottom
up, then from top down, and finally from bottom up. Start the wrapping at
the position 30 mm (1.18 in.) away from the bottom of the connector. Do not
cut the tape until all the three layers of the tape are already wrapped. Wrap
each layer of tape around the connector tightly.
