What makes good people do bad things?

There are different types of people in the world, as they all have different
behavior, personality, and culture. Everyone has a different view of what
makes good people do bad things. It is amazing how such calm and nice
people turn into such a bad people. There must be a psychology reason in
order for them to turn like this. There are some factors I would like to know
and also discuss of why people behave this way. Therefore, a person with
different behavior makes them act different and hence, that impacts on a
person’s personality which makes them turn from good person to bad
person.

There are some major factors that may be considered on what good people
do bad things. In the article, Ronald developed a list of six factors using the
word WIZARD. The first factor he talks about is the W, which stands for
weakness of will; he talks about how people just become so weak when
sorting out everything in their life. People try to do it on their own way
thinking they know everything and end up doing something irrelevant. Duska
gives an example of a desert to tell us that if we want to lose weight we
should not be having desert but since we are very weak in sorting out things
in life we might not be able to give up on our desert. Everyone has to
overcome their own temptation, for example in a game the player cannot ask
someone else to help them overcome their temptation. There are some
desires which can be called as “greed”. Ronald uses another example of an
Abraham Lincoln where Lincoln throw a man out from his office as the man
was trying to bribe to him; when people ask Abraham he says the guy was too
close to his price which means everyone has their own weak will and desire
but the best way to avoid this kind of situation is by someone telling you or
you becoming strong about yourself. The best way to stay good as a person is
by using reward system. Take all the negative people out of your life and stay
around positive people. Honesty and integrity is the key to be always a good
person.

The second factor is I, which stand for ignorance. Ronald says people try to
ignore the difference between right and wrong. “Ignosis means without
knowledge and Gnosis is the Greek word knowledge” ( ). He says people have
to be thought right from the childhood, it is parents responsibility to teach
their kids right. Customs are very important as it part of society and every
gang, family, group, or tribe has customs if you do not teach your kids the
right custom they will ignore it as they get old. The lack of relationship with
parents and kids makes parents hesitate to teach their kids the right value of
the culture and the custom. Duska gives an example; if parents see their kid
stealing something small from the first time and if the kids’ parents ignore
that then this is what makes good people turn into a bad people.

The third factor of what makes good people do bad things is Z, which stands
for slippery slope. Bernie Madoff explains his story of how he cheated in the
beginning a little bit and got away with, and then he did not realize that he
was doing it all the little by little and fall to a habit of doing it all the time by
taking from one person and giving to another person. As he thought he can fix
this mistake as its not a big deal but after a while it’s too much to fix it as it
gets impossible. A small misstep in the beginning ca not be recognized but
after sometime it harms you in a long way. We all have habits of doing
something which can be good or bad. It all starts from bad way of doing
certain things that end up making people bad too. It gets harder to quite once
you do something bad. If you do not stop the bad stuff in the beginning it can
transfer a good person in to a bad person.

The fourth factor is A, which stands for arrogance and accommodation. “The
arrogance is an alternative name for bride” ( ). Duska says it is important to
make rules which are benefit for yourself rather than hurting yourself from
making rules. People want to listen to their gangs and tribe and want to
follow them; they seek their approval for their actions. He also says they do
that because they want to be recognized in their group, they do not want to
feel left behind in their group. They can only go against culture if they have
that kind of power and the incentive to go; that is the reason they will need
some effort to do the ethical behavior.

The fifth factor is the R, which stands for rationalization. The rationalization is
a capacity of human being to defend their behavior even though they know it
is intensify. The one phrase everyone uses and gets away is “everyone does
this”, Ronald is saying that when you know you did something bad which you
not supposed to and you know it is not right for you. You try to cover yourself
by saying “everybody does this”; there is nothing wrong if I did that. It all
matters if one decide to jump from cliff does everyone do the same; its same
thing as mother is saying to their child not to do it but they still do it. I don’t
care what everyone else does you do what is meant or accepted from you to
be done. Therefore, rationalizations does factor on what makes good people
to do bad things.

The last and the sixth factor is the D, which means docility. It involves obeying
and listening authority figure. Milgram’s has done an experiment on people to
find out if people really want to obey and listen to rules. This experiment
started since people were not ready to listen to authority they are ready to
take this treatment but they would not stop doing this bad things. This a
factore of good people turn into bad as if people do not listen carefully and
don t follow the authority they might do something bad.

In the article, Frank says if you think of good thing positive things eventually
you will stop thinking about bad things. This is true because now society do
not want to hear if it’s bad or good they just want to make money by doing
bad or good to other people. In the USA today article, it talks about people
act on the conditions and environment they are surrounded with. It relates to
the inherent tendency which means if you put them in good environment and
give them enough time to change they will change as surrounding can change
them. It also depends on who they are talking to and who are their friends.
For example if you hang around with broke people you will be broke too but if
you hang around with rich people you will be rich. Also, in the article it talks
about people having different characters.

Everyone has different characters and we can recognize that because

everyone has different mindset and everyone thinks different. Most people
are formed with different characters from childhood. Characters is very
simple to modify as you choose to listen one of your hero and you follow their
footsteps as you want to reach to the place they are at. For example, if you are
an employee you would like to reach to the boss level so you have to listen to
your boss and learn to get to the position you want to get to. Once you choose
that then you have to listen to them doesn’t matter if they are saying is good
or bad for you even though you know that but in order for them to be like
them you have to listen to them. There is a dynamic process in order to set
character where people have two minds unconscious and conscious mind
and they desire two levels short term and long term goal. Overall, characters
is important factor of what makes good people do bad things because they
don’t care at this point if they are harming other people they are just looking
at their coach and focusing on how they can get there by being evil or human
being.

There are some people they think something wrong and they have two sided
image. Some people look something from outside but in reality they are
something else. In the article USA today, Mark Sanford talks about a person
who was really honest and family-loving guy and when he comes back from
his vacation people have realize he changed a lot; people wonder what
happened to the good guy he was always been. Also, one act cannot
determine that the person has turn bad from a good person. Anyone can go
or act as being good or bad but the reality is what actually makes them act
the way they do. The forces of their conscious way and behaving the way they
behave are very important change in human being.

Overall, the impacts on a person’s personality can people turn from good
person to bad person as people with different behavior makes them act
different. Everyone has their own way of living life, it all starts with what
background and religious perspective you come from. All of us look at the
same situation differently and react differently; in some cases there might be
something which my religion say it’s wrong but on the other hand the same
thing will be good for that particular religion as they consider as a good.
