Guess

What, Guess Where, Guess Who




Goal: The student will initiate a conversation using “Guess what” “Guess where” and “Guess who” statements for up
to 5 exchanges about a topic.

Instructional Procedure: Use text cues to teach. Go back and forth to promote conversation. Try to make it as natural
as possible. Example:
Therapist: Therapist says: “Guess what I am doing this weekend”
Student: “What”
Therapist: “I am going to play …..”
Student: “Cool” (Therapist may have to point to the cue)
Therapist: (Switches wh but stays on same topic) “Guess who I am going to play with”
ETC.
Then student has to initiate his own guess wh statement(s) about something (Therapist may have to point to the text
cue to prompt)

Teaching Steps:
1. Therapist initiates – “Guess what…” – Student replies with “What?”
a. With text cue
b. Without text cue
2. Therapist answers student – Student replies with comment (e.g., “Cool” “Awesome” etc.)
a. With text cue
b. Without text cue
3. Student initiates “Guess what” (This includes answering) – with text cues, without text cues
4. Therapist initiates – “Guess where…” – Student replies with “Where?” – with text cues, without text cues
5. Student initiates “Guess where” (This includes answering) – with text cues, without text cues
6. RR – Guess What and Guess Where (student answers)
7. RR – Guess What and Guess Where (student initiates)
8. Therapist initiates – “Guess who…” – Student replies with “Who?” – with text cues, without text cues
9. Student initiates “Guess who” (This includes answering) – with text cues, without text cues
10. RR – Guess What, Where, Who (student answers)
11. RR – Guess What, Where, Who (student initiates)

Mastery Criteria: 80% for two consecutive sessions

7. RR – Guess What and Guess Where (student initiates)
8. Therapist initiates – “Guess who…” – Student replies with “Who?” – with text cues, without text cues
9. Student initiates “Guess who” (This includes answering) – with text cues, without text cues
10. RR – Guess What, Where, Who (student answers)
11. RR – Guess What, Where, Who (student initiates)
