Activity No. 1

Many resistors have their electrical resistance shown by a set of color codes, or
“bands,” imprinted around their circumference. A standard color code associates
each color with a specific decimal digit (0 through 9). Associate each of the
following digits with its respective color:

0 = Black
1 = Brown
2 = Red
3 = Orange
4 = Yellow
5 = Green
6 = Blue
7 = Violet
8 = Grey
9 = White

Activity No. 2 (2 points each item)

Determine the nominal resistance values of these resistors, given their band colors,
and also express the allowable tolerance in ohms.

For example, a 25 kΩ resistor with a 10% tolerance rating would have an allowable
tolerance of ± 2.5 kΩ. The answer should be written as follows:

1. Red, Grn, Blk, Sil = nominal value: 25kΩ

tolerance: ±2.5kΩ

1. Red, Org, Blu, Gld = nominal: 23 MΩ, tolerance: ± 1.15 MΩ

2. Brn, Blk, Grn, Sil = nominal:1 MΩ, tolerance: ±100 kΩ
3. Blu, Blk, Brn, Gld = nominal: 600 Ω, tolerance: ±30 Ω
4. Yel, Vio, Red, Sil = nominal: 4.7 kΩ, tolerance: ± 470 Ω
5. Grn, Brn, Yel = nominal: 510 kΩ, tolerance: ± 102 kΩ
6. Wht, Blu, Blk, Sil = nominal: 96 Ω, tolerance: ± 9.6 Ω
7. Gry, Grn, Org, Gld = nominal: 85 kΩ, tolerance: ±4.25 kΩ
8. Org, Org, Gld = nominal: 3.3 Ω, tolerance: ± 0.66 Ω
9. Vio, Red, Sil, Gld = nominal: 0.72 Ω, tolerance: ± 0.036 Ω
10.Brn, Red, Blk, Sil = nominal:12 Ω, tolerance: ± 1.2 Ω
