THE PHILIPPINES AND THE FIRST CIRCUMNAVIGATION

After seeing the featured video, It expresses or explains to us how the first
circumnavigation occur. It was introduced as the start of Magellan’s voyage,
where he believes in scientists’ theories that the world is round, so the Queen
and King of Spain agreed on his ideas and gave him five ships and crews to start
the expedition on September 20, 1519. As we have known that the textbooks
history been told us that Lapu-Lapu killed Magellan was not true as the records
that witnessed the battle did not even mention them as the battle of Mactan
between Lapu-Lapu and Magellan didn’t even a duel on one-on-one, but it was
an attempt by the Mactan warriors to defend their homeland from the Spaniards.
Moreover, why did Magellan die? fail? Because he thought he couldn’t be
vanquished. For the reason, his God was on his side, believed himself he was
powerful given the weapons he had, even he taught that his men were immune
and ready for battle. He didn’t think about the strategies of Filipinos as he ignored
the Filipino system of the people on that island when he messed it up. After that
battle, they continued their voyage. They continued to search for the Maluku with
new leader Juan Carvalho as they explored and discovered other islands and
after exploring the Mindanao coast until October, they finally reached Tidore in
Maluku in November 1521, Throughout their expedition, they finally found the
“rekado” they were looking., which resulted in the deaths of many crew members.
Then they return to Spain in September 1522. Led by Juan Sebastian de Elcano,
where departed with 18 crew left including Pigafetta, who chronicled the story of
the voyage with a total of 270 crew members when they begin the expedition. In
the first circumnavigation, they introduced different things that can happen, that
have a big impact, that could change, and that have a purpose because the living
of the natives claims their lives more painfully as a result of the opening of the
colonization that occurred during the era of Magellan. Furthermore, as the
contribution of the first circumnavigation, they established called “galleon trade”
of which the Philippines was part of it and more progressive ideas became part of
that global trade.
