The Republic of Turkey is a state advantageously located on the expanses of two continents, most of it
occupies the territory of southwestern Asia, mainly the Anatolian Peninsula, and a small part (3%) of the
country is located in southern Europe, occupying part of the Balkan Peninsula between the
Mediterranean and the Black Seas. Turkey's neighbors on the east side are: Armenia, Azerbaijan,
Georgia, Iran, on the south side: Syria and Iraq, and on the western border: Bulgaria and Greece. Turkey
is a country of four seas: the southern coast is washed by the Mediterranean Sea (Antalya, Kas,
Marmaris), the western shores are washed by the waters of the Aegean Sea (Bodrum, Kusadasi, Izmir),
the northern coast is washed by the Black Sea, and the northwest is washed by the Sea of Marmara.

In the resorts of the Aegean coast of Turkey, the climate is mild Mediterranean, where the humidity
never exceeds 35%, the heat is softened by refreshing sea breezes, and the healing mountain air is
saturated with essential oils. The unique climate is ideal even for people with asthmatic and bronchial
diseases. The best vacation time is from May to October. Summer air temperature fluctuates within +30
- 35 degrees Celsius, and the water warms up to 26 degrees, which allows you to truly enjoy all the
delights of the best beach holiday.

On the Antalya Mediterranean coast, the climate is subtropical Mediterranean, with mild rainy winters
and dry and hot summers. The tourist summer season starts from the end of April and lasts until the end
of November, by the middle of summer the air warms up to 40 degrees Celsius, and the water
temperature - up to 27-28 degrees. In truth, the "velvet season" on this coast lasts from August to
October, when the summer heat gradually passes, the water temperature reaches the ideal comfortable
level.

The ski season in Turkey at the resorts begins in early December and ends in March. Erzurum is
characterized by a mountainous, continental climate with large fluctuations in daily temperatures.
Located so high (min mark 1700 m) above sea level, Erzurum is the coldest region in Turkey, with the
longest ski season. In the Uludag region (35 km. From Bursa) the climate is continental with a
southwestern wind direction. The duration of the ski season is 5 months, but the most favorable season
for skiing is the period from December 15 to March 1.

For sightseeing tours and exciting travels around the country - the season lasts all year round!

By January 2015, the official number of Turkish residents reached the figure: 76 828 000 people. The
bulk of the population is made up of Turks (78%), nearly 11% of the inhabitants are Kurds and about 4
million inhabitants are Greeks. The rest of the population of Turkey is made up of Arabs, Armenians,
Jews, Circassians and other small ethnic groups.

The state language is Turkish, locally, in some regions Kurdish, Azerbaijani, Gagauz, Kabardian and
others are used. All writing is based on the Latin alphabet (writing in Turkish in Arabic letters is
prohibited by law).

In the tourist regions (Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya and Aegean coasts), English, French are widely spoken,
as well as, most of the merchants in the resort area of Antalya, Marmaris and certain districts of Istanbul
speak Russian quite well, which allows tourists to travel with comfort and greatly facilitates
communication with the local population.
Currently, the overwhelming majority of the Turkish population is Muslim (97%). Most of the inhabitants
are Sunni Muslims - about 77%, another 20% are Shiites. In addition to Muslims, Greek, Armenian and
Syrian Orthodox Christians and Jews live in Turkey.

The only national secular holiday in Turkey is Youth and Sports Day (May 19). After all, almost 66% of the
Turkish nation consists of people under the age of 35. Such a high percentage of young people explains
the recent trend towards a return to the norms of Islam (a feature of Muslim civilization is that it is
primarily students who advocate for the maintenance of traditions there). In general, speaking of
Turkey, one must not lose sight of the fact that, despite the separation of the Church from the state in
1928, here, in contrast to Russia, you will not find atheists. Despite the fact that in the Republic of
Turkey only two Islamic celebrations, Seker Bayram and Kurban Bayram, are official holidays,
confessional festivals are immensely loved both in the countryside and in the urban environment.

In the Ottoman Empire, food has always been elevated to a cult. In the 17th century, there were about
13 thousand chefs in the Istanbul palace at the same time, and each of them specialized in preparing
only one dish. Every day 10 thousand people dined in the palace, and the city nobility received baskets
of food from the palace as a sign of special favor.

Breakfast is considered one of the most important meals in Turkey, because Turkish families mostly eat
breakfast together. A typical Turkish breakfast includes cheese (white cheese, regular, etc.), butter,
olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, honey, jam, fresh bread and pastries. Simit - a bagel,
abundantly sprinkled with sesame seeds, and a poacha - bun are very popular for breakfast.

Turks are big lovers of snacks - meze, including salads, sheep cheese, beans, rice in grape leaves, stuffed
tomatoes, peppers, olives, etc. When preparing salads, they use olive oil, lemon, or table vinegar and
salt.

At the very beginning of any Turkish meal, Turkish soup (chorba) is served. There are four main methods
of cooking Turkish soup: chicken or meat broth (with noodles, rice, vegetables, beans, yogurt), seasoned
with eggs or lemon juice, tomato soups and mashed soups with butter, and, finally, Turkish jajik soup -
an analogue of our Russian okroshka, made from cold yogurt and cucumbers (this dish is sometimes
referred to as meze).
