PHILIPPINE SITUATION PERCEPTION ON THE EFFECTS TO DR. JOSE
DURING SPANISH ERA RIZAL 1 THE POLITICAL SYSTEM The Philippines has been severely affected by Spain's political instability, in which the government has failed to implement consistent and fair policies towards the Filipino people. These made Rizal decide that he had enough of this corrupt administration and aims to change the government system by awakening Filipino patriotism. 2 RELIGIOUS SYSTEM The Friars had abused the religious system. Rizal realized that they are making religion a shield and stepping stone to gain power and influence. He opened up the misdeeds of its colonial administration through his novels.
3 ECONOMIC SITUATION The economic situation during the 19th century
gave rise to the upper and middle classes, including Rizal, making him receive an education. Therefore, he learned the spirit of nationalism in school as he witnessed the true agenda of the Spaniards. 4 FEUDAL SYSTEM Rizal saw how the Church takes a position on the state's issues and how this contributes to injustice between the Friars, the landowners, and tenants. These motivated Rizal to call for church reform-- secularization of parishes from the state. 5 EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM The friars controlled the education system, emphasizing more religion, has no academic freedom, racial discrimination, and limited curriculum. These contributed to Rizal's goal in education, which is to advocate for the literacy rights of his fellow citizens.
