Online procedure for the renewal of your French

student residence permit

1. Who can apply online?

a. Any student who holds a valid student residence permit (laminated card or visa + visa
validation certificate)
b. Students coming from Algeria

2. Who is excluded?

a. Premaster students coming with a “visa concours”

b. Minor students with a “visa mineur scolarisé”

If you hold one of these visas, please contact or visit the Registrar Office

3. When should you apply?

Up to 120 days (4 months) before the expiry date of the visa or residence permit. Start the
process as early as possible; do not wait until the last moment. The deadline is 60 days
before the expiry date. If you apply later, you will receive a fine and you will not receive a
prolongation certificate.

4. Where should you apply?

https://administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr/particuliers/#/

If you arrived in France in 2019 or later, you already used the same platform to validate your
visa online and you can use the same ID codes. If not, you can create a new profile.
5. How does it work?

The process will be done in 6 steps:

a) Checking of your personal details (which should already be pre-filled once you have
identified)
b) Explaining the purpose of your stay in France, selecting the type of higher education
institution and type of studies
c) Declaring your income
d) Uploading all your documents
e) Checking the recap of your application. A box will be available if you want to bring an
issue to the attention of the officer in charge (if some of your personal details which you
cannot change are not correct anymore for example)
f) Obtaining a first receipt confirming that you have submitted an application. This first
receipt called “confirmation du dépôt” will not grant you any rights because your
documents have not been checked at that stage. It does not have the same value as the
récépissé.

6. Which documents will you need to upload (4th step)?

a. Copy of your current residence permit card (front and back) or Visa + visa validation
b. Passport: ID page, visa pages, pages with the airport stamps
c. Reference number for your ephoto (photo + signature)
d. Housing proof
i. If you have a housing proof in your name: recent electricity, gas, water,
phone (landline or mobile), internet bill. It should be dated less than 6
months. It could also be your rental agreement, a rent payment receipt
signed by the landlord or your housing tax receipt
ii. If you are hosted at someone else’s place: hosting certificate signed by the
host, host’s ID and residence permit (if relevant), housing proof in the host’s
name
e. Purpose of the stay:
i. Enrollment certificate (do not use the one which is available in your
intranet but request a special one to your program coordinator. It should
mention the length of your studies, possible graduation date and your
assiduity).
ii. Transcripts (these should also be requested to your program coordinator; do
not use the unofficial ones available in your Myessec profile)
iii. Copy of the last diploma obtained in France or graduation certificate or
certificate of achievement (if relevant)
f. Income proof:
i. You have at least 7400 euros in a bank account in your name (the money
does not have to be blocked): you will upload a recent balance attestation or
account statement (it should be dated one month max)
ii. You are a scholarship holder: you will upload the scholarship certificate (from
Campus France or from your government)
iii. You are a wage-earner: you will upload your latest 3 payslips and your work
contract
iv. You have a guarantor: you will upload a financial support certificate signed
by the guarantor as well as his ID and a letter from his bank confirming that a
bank transfer of at least 615 euros monthly is set up in your favor

7. The Recap (5th step)

You will not be able to change most of the information but you can indicate in a blank box
anything you can bring to the attention of the officer.

At this stage, you will have to validate your application and submit it

8. Which receipts will you obtain:

a. The first receipt is the one entitled “confirmation de dépôt”. It does not grant you
any rights because your application has not been checked at this stage.
b. The second receipt is the one entitled “attestation de prolongation d’instruction”. It
replaces the previous récépissé:
i. If you did not hold a French residence permit (or visa + visa validation
certificate), it will not grant you any rights:

ii. If you already hold a French residence permit (or visa + visa validation
certificate), it will grant you the same rights as the current residence permit
for an extended duration (rights to work, to travel, to get housing
subsidies…):
c. The third receipt is the one entitled “attestation de decision favorable”. It will be
sent after your file has been checked and validated by the prefecture officers if it is
complete. It confirms that a laminated card has been ordered. It should be available
around 3 weeks after you receive this third receipt.
9. General information:

a. The online platform will dispatch the application files according to your address. If
your address is in Cergy, the Cergy prefecture will be in charge and you will collect
your card there once it is available.
If your address is in Paris, you will have to collect your card in Paris.

b. You will be kept informed on your personal area and should receive emails every
step of the way. A document might be rejected. In that case you will be informed and
will have to submit a new one.

c. Even though, you could apply on your own, we advise you to contact us and have us
check your documents before submitting your application. We also ask you to send
us your receipts once you obtain them so that we can do a follow-up.

d. How to find a photo machine or photographer which will issue a e-photo?You should
enter your address on the website below in order to find the machines or
photographers close to your home:

e. If everything goes well, you will not need to provide the prefecture with your
fingerprints. They should be able to use the same ones as for your visa or previous
residence permit. In that case, you should only go once to the prefecture to collect
the laminated card once it is ready.
