Hello everyone!
Problem Description
The throughput of the OptiX OSN 1800 does not meet the requirements during the PW and
tunnel rate-limiting test.
Process:
A user sets the rate limit of the PW and tunnel to 300 Mbit/s respectively when configuring
PWE3 services (the UNI port is a hybrid port) and sends common IP packets using the tester.
However, no matter which rate limit mode is used, the throughput of packets reaches 306
Mbit/s.
Problem Analysis
Use the same services and QoS configuration on the live network to perform the throughput
tests in the lab. Topology of the lab:
1. Configure a PWE3 E-Line service between NE1 and NE2 based on the configuration of the
faulty NE on the live network. Set the tunnel rate limit to 300 Mbit/s. Use the Spirent
TestCenter to test the RFC 2544 throughput. Check whether the maximum throughput
exceeds the configured tunnel rate-limit bandwidth.
2. Delete the tunnel rate limit configuration and set the PW rate limit as 300 Mbit/s. Use the
Spirent TestCenter to test the RFC 2544 throughput. Check whether the maximum throughput
exceeds the configured PW rate-limit bandwidth.
Experimental procedure
1. Configure a PWE3 E-Line service between NE1 and NE2 based on the configuration of the
faulty NE on the live network. Set the tunnel rate limit to 300 Mbit/s. Then select the RFC
2544 test function of the Spirent TestCenter and use the IP packets to run this test. The
Spirent TestCenter RFC2544 test result is shown below:
2. Delete the tunnel rate limit configuration and set the PW rate limit as 300 Mbit/s. Use the
Spirent TestCenter to test the RFC 2544 throughput.

Solution
It is recommended that the user adopt a scientific test method and use the instruments
produced by authoritative manufacturers.
