Course Objectives:
During the course:
1. Understanding the concepts related to Calculus intuitively and
intrinsically.
2. Learning the techniques of differentiation and integration about single
variable functions.
3. Studying the applications of calculus in physics, engineering,
economics, and the life sciences.
After completing the course:
1. Being well-prepared for Multiple Variable Calculus.
2. Being able to apply calculus to solve real life problems
3. Considering things intrinsically, reasonably, logically and completely

Course Contents:
1. Function and Models (1 wk.)
Functions, Exponential functions, Inverse Functions and Logarithms
2. Limits and Derivatives (2-3 wks.)
Limits, Continuity, Limit at Infinity, Horizontal Asymptotes, Derivatives,
Rate of Change
3. Differentiation Rules (3-4 wks.)
Derivative of Exponential Functions, Product and Quotient Rules,
Derivatives of Trigonometric function, Chain Rule, Implicit
Differentiation, Derivatives of Logarithmic Functions, Rate of Change in
the Natural and Social Sciences, Exponential growth and decay, Related
rates, Linear Approximations and Differentials
4. Applications of Differentiation (3 wks.)
Maximum and Minimum Values, The Mean Value Theorem,
Indeteminate Forms and L’Hospital’s Rule, Curve Sketching,
Optimization, Antiderivative
5. Integrals (2 wks.)
Area and Distances, The Definite Integral, The Fundamental Theorem of
Calculus, Indefinite integrals and the net change theorem. The
Substitution Rule
6. Applications of Integration (2 wks.)
Areas between Curves, Volumes, Volume by Cylindrical Shells, Work,
Average Value of a Function
7. Techniques of Integration (2-3 wks.)
Integration by Parts, Trigonometric integrals, Trigonometric Substitution,
Partial Fractions, Improper integrals
