ROBIN HOOD SUMMARY

1) The story of “Robin Hood” begins with a brief description of the background in which Robin
was born. The first character to appear is his grandfather, George Gamwell, who is from Saxon
origin. He has a daughter, Johanna. He taught her to be a good fighter. People at that time
fought with swords, bows and arrows. She is in love with William Fitzooth. He is from Norman
origin. By that time Angles and Normans did not carry on well. So, Marian’s father opposed to
their love. Consequently, they run away to the forest. A year later, George meets his grandson
and as he is moved, he forgives his son-in-law and they start living together. As a child, Robin
lives in Locksley and all the people love him. When he is older, he becomes a robber. He hides
behind the trees that surround The Great North Road to steal rich people and give the money
and food he collects to the poor.

By this time, there are two princes who fights for the kingdom; one is good-hearted, Richard,
who is away at war, and the other is bad; Prince John. He has as an allied a greedy sheriff, and
together they torture people killing them, taking money from them and forbidding them to
hunt in the forest. For instance, when an old man, Munch, hunts a deer in the forest and the
sheriff tells him off because he claims that everything which is in the forest belongs to Prince
John and later his men kill him and build down his home. It is there when his son, Will Scarlet,
decides to join Robin’s men. Another day, a sad man is riding and carrying heavy bags. Robin
invites him to dinner. When he tells his story we know that he is in debt with the abbot
because his son killed a man. The fine originally was $400, but he has to pay $1,100 and he is
worried because he only has $600. Robin decides to help him pay the rest but first he has to
ask

Throughout the story, the sheriff comes up with different plans to catch Robin, in almost all of
them he fails, except from the last one, when he kills Robin. At first, he decides to confront
Robin in the church where he is supposed to get married. Robin is in love with Lady Marian, a
beautiful lady, also brave and warrior. After the episode in the church, Robin decides to move
to Sherwood forest.
