 Anaphylaxis causes the immune system to release a flood
of chemicals that can cause shock
 A clinical response to an immediate immunologic reaction
between a specific antigen and antibody
 Resulting from rapid release of IgE mediated
chemicals
 Induces severe life threatening allergic reaction
 Common Causes of Anaphylactic Reaction
 Foods
 Drugs
 Venoms
 Insect Sting
 Latex

ANTIBODIES
 Also known as Immunoglobulins
 Glycoprotein molecules produced by plasma cells (WBC)
 Act as a critical part of the immune response by
recognizing and binding to particular antigens (such as
bacteria or viruses) and then aiding in their destruction

IgG
 75%
 Appears in serum & tissues
 Assumes a major role in blood-borne and tissue infection
 Activates complement system
 Enhances phagocytosis
 Crosses placenta
