ABSTRACT

ABM strand can be a hardship, an obstacle, a hindrance or a

problem. In the study, it was used as a thing that is hard to accomplish,

deal with, or understand. In line with studying, the current Grade 11 and

12 students who are currently taking the Accountancy and Business

Management strand experiences problems regarding their specialized

subjects. The purpose of this study is to know the factors that affects

their future career plan in choosing ABM strand, as ABM students ,seek

to find answers on what are the factors that affecting their career plan.

As future businessmen and businesswomen, the researchers aim to know

how to be successful. But before doing that, we should fill our mind

with skills, learning and knowledge to enhance our capabilities and

cognitive capacity. Raising awareness on the certain factors that affects

the ABM students in choosing the right strand that match on them.

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Becoming a Senior High School Student is really such a big stepping

stone of fulfill our dreams on the future. For us ABM is the one of those

strands that a students can take a side from (STEM),(GAS),(HUMSS),

and (TVL).Aside from that strands is for those who want to be a future

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and the future businessman/woman

and be a part or the huge contribution to our economy. Some students

say that ABM is hard type of strand because it composed or

mathematics. Although it requires only basic mathematical operations,

what make it difficult is the use of analytical and logical thinking. But

not all time, because some or the students is good on analyzing and have

full strategies to face all of the problem.

Probably not all of the ABM students is good in mathematical

operations and logical thinking, they conquer the fears of being weak in

the major subjects. There so many reasons that can affect the students

decision in choosing their strand and those are :"personal factors " and

"family factors ".

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The researchers believe that the results and summary of the


findings of this study will be significant to the students, teachers and
future researchers with the following aspects:

Students

This study will help the students know what are the factors that
could affect their chosen strand in ABM. By knowing these difficulties,
they can be aware of the things that they should know before taking this
strand for them to not lose their path.

Through this study, this will let them know on the factors that
makes the students find difficulties to learn the subjects in their chosen
strand in this pandemic through modular distance learning. By being
aware of these factors, they could improve their teaching style to attain
the learning satisfaction of the students in order to improve their
academic performance.
Future researchers

This will be a big help to the future researchers that they could use
as a reference and guide undertaking similar research.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This research focuses on the grade 10 students and their decisions

upon pursuing their career plan and courses that is related in their strand

or not. We are trying to discover the factors or reason why those grade

10 students choose this strand and what are their reason in pursuing

courses in college that is related in ABM or reason for not pursuing

courses related to ABM. This research only focuses on the grade 10

students who choose ABM strand, which means other academic and

non-academic track will not be included in this research.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Accountancy Business Management (ABM)

- Refers to the accountancy, business, and management academic

programs that concentrate on the foundational concepts in corporate

operations, financial management, business management, as well as each

and every factor that revolves around those central fields.

Career

- An occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person’s

life and with opportunities for progress.

Difficulties

- A thing that is hard to accomplish, deal with, or understand.

Obstacles

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

INTRODUCTION

This chapter is about the review of books, journals, other literature and studies that are

related to the present study.

RELATED LITERATURE

“A satisfying lifestyle depends greatly on a satisfying career. For that


reason, you’ve probably decided not to be among the 50% who “fall”
into a career decision-making process to choose a career that’s right for
you. In doing this, you’ll take a big step toward controlling your own

According to the “The Good Universities Guide” (2017) there are
5 factors that affects the decision of the students. At first, the students
are expecting for high grades in a subject they are going to take. Second,
talking to professional about the industry. Third, being pressured by the
parents. Choosing a course, you do not want and not interested. And
lastly, thinking about the future graduating. Choosing the pathway for
the future. Look for a job that is connected to your degree/ (The Good
Universities Guide, 2017).

Making decisions is something we do every day, so I wanted to
find out more about how this process works and what affects the choices
we make. It turns out, there are some really interesting ways our
decisions are affected that I never would have guessed. Luckily, we can
take action to improve most of these. Obviously, lots of things take place
inside your brain as you make a decision. What I found really interesting
were the various things that affects our brain’s decision-making process
without us ever realizing.
Over and above past experiences, cognitive biases, and individual
differences; another influence on decision making is the belief in
personal relevance. It can reflect the attitude of one individuals,
concluded that people will vote more readily they believe their opinion
is indicative of the attitudes of the general population, as well as when
they have a regarded for their own importance in the outcomes. The age
is one individual difference that influences toward in the decision
making. As part of their age the thinking is affected of generalized ideas
of them in making decisions if its relevant or not. It’s up to them which
they want to have for it happens effectively for them the importance
outcomes of the decisions they are in.

LOCAL

In choosing ABM strand is not easy, but sometimes it is easy to


choose if you already know what is your goal and what are your plans in
the future. Below are some factors in choosing ABM as your strand:
- You are willing to have a business someday. It is because in this
strand, you will learn how to start a business, what characteristics does a
business man/woman needed? And lastly, how to manage a film

entrepreneurship, and anything in the business world.
- You must be inclined who the subject Mathematics, but not at all
students are good in this subject but the students have their saying which
is “If this is your weakness, you should give some extra effort and more
focus”. Most of the students choose this strand because they are good in
Math which is easier for them.
- You are 101% sure that you really love being a ABM student. You
cannot achieve your goal id you don’t love your course. If you choosing,
ABM love everything about ABM, you can give your full effort and
attention just to achieve your dreams. (Factors of, n.d.)
The Senior High School as part of the K-12 Curriculum is new in
our educational system, but in the contrary, these added two years in
basic education will provide an opportunity for everyone to be equally
well-prepared for a college education academically. In Senior High
School there are four career tracks for students to choose from:
Academic, Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, Sports, and Art & Design.
One of the strands in Academic track is Accountancy and Business
Management (ABM) which offers subjects which will help and open our
minds into the business world therefore, become the ticket to the
corporate world.
The purpose of writing the literature is to highlight and broaden the
knowledge of the students of what ABM really is. The literature review
focuses on the ABM strand, for the students to have a background
knowledge about it to let them know what are the possible courses they
can take up in college in line with the said strand and the potential jobs
they can acquire in the future.

Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) strand offers
subjects which will help and open our minds into the business world,
therefore, economy grows through the years, more and more job
opportunities are being available, and as of this year 2017, accounting
and finance related jobs are the most sought jobs around the world.
Overall the purpose of writing the literature is to highlight and broaden
the knowledge of the students of what ABM is and encourage them to
take up the said track. The author’s objectives were reasonable and
attainable and the article was relevant and convincing.
The literature review answered all the questions about ABM track
clearly. The article also included enough information to fulfill the
anticipation of the students to gain knowledge about ABM.

According to Reynolds (n.d.) “there are times that students choose


their course/track based on their personal interest. The students based
their choosing a course according to their interest. It is good to know if
the student chooses their course according to what they really want. And
not the decision of others. Because if they what other people say to
them, there will be a situation that they cannot handle their goals
properly”. (Reynolds)

“Recent studies show that 70 of secondary students want to start


their own businesses; yet, about 15% feel that they have the skills and
knowledge to do so. Also, it is a well-publicized fact that today’s
graduate will changed CAREERS (not job, in the sense of moving to a
higher level position or moving across town to do the same job) at least
7 times in their professional job years. This means students need to have
the knowledge and skills it takes to become a lifelong leaner and to
harness the momentum of the business world to their advantage”.

“Choosing a course/strand is a big decision that we need to think


wisely and deeply because it affects the nature of many students. The
two important parts of decision-making about choosing a right course
and profession of a students is his/her personal interest and strength.
Parents has the big role for their child to decide what course will be
right for them. Friends sometimes are always with them so that their
decision that they have to do is influenced them.Also, they think their
financial situation.” Perez, J., (11th of March 2015)

“What are the basis of choosing a course in course in college?


First, you must know the thins where you are good, you know where
your interest will make it sure if it is what you want. That you can
handle it within four or more years. You will see your future if it can be
successful or not. You’re able to look what job will be in your future.
Therefore, choose a course/strand that you can finish according to your

goals. Choose your course wholeheartedly.” (Jojo, 2015)

You can base it from the thing you want to do, want job in the
future, and you want in life. Through this you will never be regret the
course that you have chosen because you really want this work. This will
be the reason of a successful person.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

This chapter is about the type of research that was used in this study, the respondents or

the participants, sampling design, instruments, and planned data gathering procedure.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study used a qualitative descriptive design. The word qualitative

meaning it is used to gain an understanding of underlying reason, and

motivations.

INSTRUMENT OF THE STUDY

The main instrument used by the researchers was structured survey questionnaire which

determined the factors that affects the future career plan in choosing ABM strand.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

The participants in this study are the grade 10 students during the Academic year 2020-2021. A

total of 30 students from the grade 10 students were randomly selected.

CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, RECOMMENDATION

INTRODUCTION

This chapter presents the summary, conclusions, and recommendations of researchers

after the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of the data gathered in this study.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

The main purpose of the study is to aid and to raise awareness on the rising diffilculties faced by

ABM students of G.I.S.T. on their specialized subjects and to provide a solution for this so called

problems. This reaserch focuses on the grade 10 students and their decisions upon pursuing their career

plan and courses that is related in their strand or not.

We are trying to discover the factors or reasons why those grade 10 students choose this strand

and what are their reasons in pursuing courses in college that is related to ABM. In choosing ABM strand

is not easy, but sometimes itis easy to choose if you already know what is your goal and what are the your

plans in the future.

This study used a qualitative descriptive design and the main instruments used by the researchers

was structured survey questionneir which determined the factors that affects of the future career plan in

choosing ABM strand. The participants in this study are the grade 10 students during the academic year

2020-2021. A total of 30 students from the grade 10 students were randomly selected.

CONCLUSIONS

We researchers conclude that we made this research topic "Factors that Affects the Future Career

Plan in Choosing ABM Strand of Grade 10 Students" For grade 10 students who will be soon take related

course in ABM, for teachers and future researchers,for them to use it as their additional source of

knowledge about background, statement of the problem,and significance of this study and also to know

them the relation of some foreign and local about on this study.

We used qualitative descriptive design and create survey questionnaire to answer it by 30

respondents for us to know and analyse what are the most concerns about this topic.

And Our purpose are to find the findings which related on this and give real statement so we could

help and give guide for everyone who's relates on this study.

RECOMMENDATIONS

On the conclusion we study, it is humbly that the researchers will all make the following

recommendations.

• For respondents, make sure you like the chosen course. You need to clarify what you want to happen in

the future. You should also learn to balance your study time with other activities.

• For students, you should know your priorities so that you don't waste time on unimportant things.

• For parents, only guide the children in choosing the course. Do not force the child to take the course that

he or she is not able to because it will lead to great difficulty for your child.

• For teachers, study how to get students interested in the subject you are teaching to make it easier to

learn and to get students' attention in learning.
