1. Summarize
1.1 Application and usage
a) Application
Our corporate oil immersed and hair pin current transformer applies to AC power systems at
the highest voltage for equipment 40.5, 72.5, 126, 145, 170, 245(252), 300kV and rated
frequency of 50/60Hz. The functions are current, electric energy metering and measuring, busbar
differential protection, overcurrent protection, and distance protection.

b) Scope
This instruction manual specified the detailed specification of the Product feature, Operation
conditions, Product structure and operating principle, Main technical parameters, Out of box audit,
Lifting and commissioning test, Use and Operation, Trouble analysis and shooting, Operation and
maintenance, Transportation and storage and so on for Oil immersed and dead tank Current
Transformer. Please read it carefully before installations.
1.2 Product feature
a) Use multilayer limit seal, Strictly control the compression ratio and compression strength. To
ensure reliable sealing and pressure, not oil leakage. Effectively prolong the service life of the
product.
b) Use more main screen and thin insulation structure in the design of the major insulation. First,
guarantee a high starting level of the partial discharge at design method. Pressure and impact
resistance performance is good.
c) Use reliable contact way and enlarge the contact area to reduce the contact resistance to avoid
local overheating.

2. Product structure and operating principle


2.1 Introduction
This series CT is oil immersed and hair pin type with a chain structure primary
winding(40.5kV), but U-form primary winding (72.5kV and above). The product has high insulation
level, low partial discharge, small and stable dielectric dissipation factor.
Stainless steel expansion bellows are installed on the top of the current transformer, so that
oil can be isolated from the outside, the product can be prevented from moisture absorption, the
aging of inner insulation can be slowed and the oil volume can be adjusted according to
temperature changes. The oil level indicating line on the bellow is used for inspecting the oil
height of the product. Oil tank is located at the bottom, on which secondary outlet terminals, lifting
hook, oil drain valve and earth plate are equipped.

2.3 External insulation
The external insulation of this product is HV porcelain bushing. Its proper flashover distance
and creepage distance guarantee the outer insulation performance of the product.
3. Main technical parameters
3.1 Highest voltage for equipment: 40.5, 72.5, 126, 145, 170, 245(252), 300kV

4. Out of box audit


Each product is provided with instruction manual, quality certificate, qualified certificate,
packing list and so on. Please check the software and accessories along with the product
according to the packing list. Be careful not to damage the product. Check the products as follows
after unpacking.

★ If there is any damage to the appearance of the product;


★ If the software and accessories along with the product according to the packing list;
★ If there is oil leakage phenomenon;
★ If the oil level is in normal limits;
★ If the markings are clear and correct;
★ Reconnected product delivery in parallel, If the product is correctly connected.
5. Lifting and commissioning test
5.1 Product lifting
The current transformer shall be hoisted with lifting rope that can stand its weight (Product
lifting Figure 2), then installed vertically on a horizontal base, and rigidly fixed to the base by
bolts through mounting holes at the bottom of the product. P1,P2 terminal concatenated in AC
circuit. The secondary cable should be put into the cartridge at the bottom of the secondary
junction box and reliably connected to the secondary terminals to the corresponding measuring
and protective instrument. Product grounding should be reliable. For the capacitance type product
of 72.5kV and above, its earth terminal of end shield of the primary winding shall be effectively
connected to earth.

Attention
★ When lifting products, protection of wire in contact with the product should be taken to
prevent scratch on the surface of the product.
★ The lifting inclination angle shall not exceed 15°.
★ Should take some steps to prevent the product from dumping during the process of lifting,
storage, install and so on, and avoid damage of the product, resulting in quality hidden trouble.
★ Product grounding should be reliable, 72.5kV and above the capacitance type structure of
the product which earth terminal of end screen of the primary winding shall be effectively
connected to earth, May not appear floating potential.
★ For horizontal transportation products expander (170kV and above), the fixed
establishment or cushion must be removed before running, to make sure bellows can freedom of
movement up and down.
★ Touch point of External conductor and P1, P2 should be solid and reliable, and contact
surfaces should be large enough.
★ When install the product, be careful and ensure seal complete.
★ Open circuit of secondary winding is strictly prohibited while it’s running. Standby
secondary winding must be short sub ground.

★ When install external wire, should ensure that mechanical load taken by primary terminal
should not exceed the standard value.
5.2 Transfer test
Doing transfer test according to IEC requirements, the results need to be compare with the
data in the product quality certificate. Significant differences are not allowed; otherwise further
analyses and judgments are required, informed of us when necessary. The products should meet
the requirements of IEC 61869-1:2007, IEC 61869-2:2012.
Test conditions: Temperature: 10℃~30℃

Relative humidity: ≤60%

6. Use and Operation


6.1 Oil sampling and oil adding method
a) Oil sampling and oil adding should be done on sunny day, the relative humidity should not
exceed 60%.
b) When oil sampling, unscrew the cover of the oil drain valve firstly, Remove the rubber cap on
the spool and loosen the spool until oil flows from the oil drain valve, thus sealing access to oil is
allowed. After that, screw the spool and cover it with the rubber cap. Clean it and screw the cover
of the oil drain valve.
c) When oil level is not visible in the winter, you should add the same specifications, treated
qualifying transformer oil. The level of the oil should meet the requirements of the environment.

6.2 Change of the transformation ratio


If it have double ratio(by primary series-parallel connection)users can change it when they
need, product is parallel connection when it is delivered. (Reconnection method Figure 3-12)
6.3 Ahead front-running inspection
a) It should be comprehensive inspected, before running. Special attention should be paid to
check the reliability and validity of all electrical connections. And check if there is oil leakage
phenomenon、If the oil level is in normal range.
b) Measure the winding dc resistance, and the difference between the measured value and the
factory value should not be greater than 10% (under same temperature)
c) At room temperature, measure insulation resistance between each winding and earth by the
2500V Meg-ohm meter. And It’s no difference between the measured value and the factory
value. The result is similar to the routine test.
d) Check the fastening of the product’s anchor bolt.
e) Product grounding should be reliable, 110kV and above the capacitance type structure of the
product which earth terminal of end screen of the primary winding shall be effectively connected
to earth, May not appear floating potential.
f) Touch point of External conductor and P1, P2 should be solid and reliable, and contact
surfaces should be large enough.
g) Open circuit of secondary winding is strictly prohibited while it’s running. Standby secondary
winding must be short sub ground.
7. Trouble analysis and shooting
7.1 If there is something unusual, please find out the reasons or even stop using the product.
7.2 If there is abnormal sound during operation, please check whether secondary windings are
open-circuited.
7.3 If the external insulation flashover, its surface should be cleaned.
7.4 Transformer overheating, Should check whether overload operation or primary terminal been
well contacted.
7.5 Transformer secondary circuit open process:
a) According to the relevant provisions of the relay protection and automatic device quit the
protection.
b) Find out the fault point and try to make terminal near open circuit short out under the premise
of ensuring safety but no fuse. If open circuit couldn’t be eliminated, power cut should be taken.
7.6 Transformer with low insulation resistance. Check whether it’s surface been wetted or polluted.
7.7 Transformer on fire, cut down the power immediately and put out the fire use fire extinguisher.
8. Operation and maintenance
8.1 Product operation and maintenance
a) There should be no oil leakage phenomenon when the products are in operation, the oil level
should be roughly in line with the marking, if product leakage are found, effective measures
should be taken, and inform the factory of it.
b) Check regularly if the oil level indicator of a product is consistent with neighbouring ones.
When special instances occur, please find out the reasons or even stop using the product.
c) Surface conductive dust insulation to be cleaned regularly, in order to ensure safety operation
of products.

d) Power losses, chromatography and moisture content of transformer oil should be measured
regularly according to operation regulation requirements. If the acetylene in the transformer oil
was more than 1×10-6 (μL/L), operation should be stopped immediately.
Attention
★ Open circuit of secondary winding is strictly prohibited while it’s running. Standby
secondary winding must be short sub ground.
★ In the operation, the acetylene in the transformer oil must be less than 1×10-6 (μL/L).
★ External insulation maintenance should be performed carefully to avoid damage.
★ Product grounding should be reliable, floating potential shouldn’t appear.
8.2 Patrol inspection cycle
a) Normal patrol: For someone on duty substation, regular patrol by operator on duty, no less
than once per duty. For no one on duty substation, perform patrol according to provision
approved by related departments.
b) Special patrol:
For new production equipment, the patrol cycle should be shorten then turned into normal
patrol after 72h operation.
Night no light patrol: no less than once per week for someone on duty substation, no less
than once per month for no one on duty substation.
When in high and low temperature seasons, high moisture seasons, abnormal climates,
patrol should be strengthen appropriately. Also in period of peak load, seasonal high voltage and
equipment abnormal.
8.3 Repair cycle
a) Once minor repair every 1-3 years, performed with preventive test normally. The minor repair
cycle for products working at pollution place should be shorten.
b) If necessary, major repair should be comprehensively analyzed and judged according to
preventive test results of transformer and on-line monitoring results in running (if any), Inform the
manufacturer if necessary.
c) Temporary repair is performed for serious defects found in the operation.
9. Transportation and storage
9.1 Product transportation
When products are transported by trucks, the speed of trucks shall be steady to avoid
mechanical damage.
9.2 Storage condition
a) Products must be stored in a firm enough place with a suitable load capacity. There is no
corrosion gas and dielectric. Products couldn’t be exposed to sun and rain and the temperature
couldn’t be lower than -30℃. For long-term storage, products must be packed.
b) Before use product again which through storage or long-term out of service, check signs of oil
leakage and measure insulation resistance of winding and end shield , power losses
factor ,capacitance and power losses, chromatography and moisture content of transformer oil.
Appropriate measures must be taken if result is not conform to requirements.
10. Ordering information
When ordering, please state technology specification as product type, accuracy class, winding
combination, current ratio, rated load, creepage distance and special requirements if you have. If
TYP winding used, rated symmetrical short-circuit current factor, regulated work cycle, primary time
constant and rated resistive load should be stated.

Note 1): When high strength bolts are tightened to the aluminum block, only allow use the
allowed moment of strength grade 8.8 bolt to tighten bolts to prevent the thread of aluminum
block from destroyed by the bolt.
