Art for me is not only about making drawings and paintings, it’s a way of how to bestow our
slumbering passions and emotions. It conveys deviant behavior of an artist. It clearly describes
different types of mental agitations like loneliness, uncertainty, happiness, and restlessness.

A:
1. The term 'impressionism' comes from a painting by Claude Monet, which he showed in
an exhibition with the name Impression, soleil levant ("Impression, Sunrise").
2. Began in France in the 1840s.
3. Impressionists strongly emphasised the effects of light in their paintings. They used short,
thick strokes of paint to capture the essence of the object rather than the subject's details.
4. Impressionism was a 19th-century art movement characterized by relatively small, thin,
yet visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its
changing qualities and ordinary subject matter.

 Impressionists used techniques that were unavailable to photographers, namely
color and texture.
 Their colors, applied in thick brushstrokes, captured the feel of light and
atmosphere.
 Their brushstrokes created a scene that feels fleeting, changing, in motion

of ordinary people doing everyday things.

B. ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF ART IN IMPRESSIONISM

 Line- Can be used to define shapes and figures, but also to indicate motion, emotion, and
other elements.
 Shape- The external form, the contours, or the outline of a subject.

 Proportion- The relation based on size between parts or objects within a composition.
 Balance- The use of artistic elements such as line, texture, color, and form in the creation
of artworks in a way that renders visual stability.

 Title of Work: The Starry Night
 How the element was applied: Van Gogh used rich blues and yellows to paint the night
sky, with light greens scattered throughout.

 How the element was applied: Monet's light, spontaneous brushwork creates splashes of
color. She is seen as if from below, with a strong upward perspective, against fluffy white
