Lesson plan

Theme: Our Colorful World


Form 4

School: Novovolynsk School 3
Objectives:
- learn and consolidate the new lexical units about nature;
- recall the colors;
- listen and watch the video about space walk;
- teach pupils in groups describe their imaginary planet;
- develop memory, guessing skills;
- develop respect to nature.
Materials: Students books, workbooks, flashcards of nature, computer, internet
resources from www.britishcounsil.org, transcript “The Colorful World”, printable
worksheets to the story.

The procedure of the lesson


I. Beginning of the lesson
T: Good morning, children! How are you today? Are you in a good mood? Are
you ready to work? I’m hope, you are.
II. Introduction of the topic and aims
T: Look at the picture and guess the theme of our lesson. What’s this?
P1: It is our planet.
P2: It is the Earth.
T: Yes, you are right! Today at the lesson
we’re going to speak about the Earth, learn new
words, travel to space with Billy and Splodge
and make in groups a poster of a new planet.

III. Warming up
T: What animals live on Earth? Are there any
rivers, forests or mountains on Earth? Are there
any plants on Earth? What color is the sun?
What color is the grass?
T: Now go to the board and match the pictures to the words (flashcards “Nature”
and written words on the board)

T: Let’s read and check up. Do you agree? Yes, you are right. Is she right?

IV. Presenting new vocabulary


T: What else can you see on the planet? Now look at the pictures? Listen and
repeat (flashcards: planet, sky, mount, volcano, sea, shell, desert, sand)

T: Now open your books on page 19. Look at the pictures, then listen, point and
repeat.
T: Yes, you are right! And now let’s play the game “Snap”. Shout snap when you
see the picture of the sky…..

1. Pre-viewing
T: We’re going to watch a cartoon about a space travel.
Meet Billy and his friend dog Splodge. They want to find other animals in space.
Before we start let’s recall the colors (red, yellow, pink, blue, green).

2. While-viewing

T: Now watch and get ready to answer three questions. What colors are the
planets? Are there any trees, plants, animals? What are there on the planets?
(Students watch the video)

Our Colorful World
This is Billy and Splodge. Billy and Splodge are in the space. They are looking
for animals in space.
Splodge sees a planet. Everything on this planet is red. Look at this forest. The
trees are red, the leaves are red. But there aren’t any animals there.
Splodge sees another planet. Everything on this planet is yellow. Look at the
yellow sky and yellow clouds. There is a yellow volcano too. Look at the yellow
smoke. But there aren’t any animals there.
Splodge sees one more planet. Everything on this planet is pink. Look at the pink
sea. There are pink shells and pink plants in the sea. There aren’t any animals
there.
Splodge sees one more planet. Everything on this planet is blue. This planet is
very hot. There is a big blue sun and a desert with blue sand. And look, there are
blue plants. There aren’t any animals there.
Splodge sees another planet. Everything on this planet is green. This planet is
very cold. The clouds are green and the snow is green. There aren’t any animals
there.
Billy is in the spaceship. There are animals in space. Let’s go home.
It’s planet Earth. The sky is blue, and the sun is yellow. The grass is green and
the flowers are pink and red.

3. Post-viewing. Writing
T: Work in pairs. Do the activities to the story on your cards (printable worksheets
to the story: colour the planets, match, fill in the missing words)
(Students in pairs do the tasks, then check up)

VI. Speaking. Group work


T: Now imagine yourselves on the spaceship. In groups draw and write about a
planet you see in space. What color are the trees on your planet? The sun? The
sky? Are there any plants? Animals?
(Students draw and write about their imaginary planet, then present to the class)
T: Thank you for your posters. They are very interesting.

VII. Home assignment


T: Your home task is exercise 4 on your printable worksheets. Draw and colour
your own planet. What’s the name of your planet? What things are there? What
colour are they? Are there any animals?”

T: What new have you learned at the lesson?
