Significance of the Study

This study will provide an interactive emergency notification tool for the emergency

responders and citizens of the Municipality of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. Thus, this study is

hoped to be beneficial to the following:

To the Emergency Responders. This capstone project will greatly help the emergency

responders because it can help provide a more accurate and efficient data and information about

the reporter emergency situation

To the Citizens of the Municipality of San Nicolas. This capstone project will greatly

benefit the citizens because it will help them in case of emergency in any place among the

vicinity of San Nicolas.

To the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).

This study will greatly benefit the staff of the MDRRMO office because this application software

will make the reporting and receiving of emergencies more easy and convenient.

To the Researcher. This study will enhance the proponents because this will broaden his

knowledge and skills in the area of emergency and rescue.

To the Future Researchers. Findings of this study may encourage researchers to

conduct similar studies along this line in the different municipalities of Ilocos Norte in order to

validate the result of the study. This will serve a guide in creating a new and more unique system.

Conceptual Framework of the Study


This capstone project intends to revolutionize the existing Emergency Response System

used by the responders of the different emergency institutions of the Municipality of San

Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. iPakaammo: Emergency Locator Interface Mobile Application is an

online web and app based system that can be accessed by the responders and citizens using their

handheld devices like smartphones.

Figure 1 shows the conceptual framework of the study. The first box consists of the

current Emergency Response System of the corresponding Institution. The second box presents

the activities by the researcher in coming up with the system. While the output of this study is

the Emergency Locator Interface System. Thus the feedback box suggests that the researcher will

compile comments and suggestions of IT experts and end users for possible improvement of the

system.

Definition of Terms

In order to have a better understanding of the study, the following terms are operationally

defined:

Google Maps is a Web-based service that gives detailed information about geographical

places around the world.[2]

GPS (Global Positioning System) a navigational system that provides location, velocity

and time synchronization.[3]

Hardware is the physical components in a computer systems.[4]

ICT stands for Information and Communications Technology. ICT refers to the

technologies that give access to information through telecommunications. This includes the

internet, wireless networks, Mobile Devices and any other communication medium [5]

Internet, is the interlink of networks worldwide and it is accessible to the publoc [6]

MDRRMO (Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction and Management Office) is the

municipality's office in promoting disaster resiliency brought about by both man-made hazards

or natural calamities.

Methodology is the systematic method to resolve a research problem through data

gathering using different techniques, giving an interpretation of the gathered data and summing

up conclusions about the research data.[7]

Mobile Devices is a handheld tablet or handheld computer that is made for portability,

and it can be described as compact and lightweight. [8]


Responders are individuals or groups that aim to help in case of emergency or help in

maintaining the orderliness of the municipality.

Reverse Geocoding is converting latitude/longitude coordinates to a mapped address.[9]

Smartphones is a cell phone that allow you to do more than make phone calls and send

text messages. Smartphones can browse the Internet and run software programs like a

computer.[10]
