APPLICABLE FOR ALL DCU PANELS UNDER AMR-1K PROJECT

1. Introduction
This document presents the list of work instructions and procedures to be performed at site for the
installation of GSM and GPS equipments inside the DCU panels that are part of the AMR system.

2. Needed Components Per Substation

3. GSM Modem Installation

3.1. Hardware Setup


1. Switch OFF the MCB3, MCB7 & MCB8 (To disconnect all panel’s supply).
2. Insert the SIM card in its proper place inside the GSM terminal.
3. Mount the GSM terminal in the holder plate (item 9) using item 6 & 7.
4. Mount the holder plate on the on the panel side using item 10. (see figure 1)

5. Route the antenna cable inside the panel.

6. Connect the antenna to the GSM terminal through the antenna connector.
7. Using the serial cable, connect the GSM terminal to the PC through COM2 port (make sure to
route the cable through the raceway & spiral).
8. Connect the GSM terminal to the power terminal block (XCOM20) using the power cable (item
4) as shown in figure 2.
9. Switch ON MCB3, MCB7 & MCB8.
10. Make sure that the GSM terminal is turned ON (check its LED’s).
11. Return everything back to its original condition.

3.2. Software Setup


1. Insure that the connection is established and proper physical connections have been made
between the GSM modem and the PC.

2. Using the PC, open Hyper Terminal tool from :


3. Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Communications>>Hyper Terminal
4. Write a name for your session, then select the COM port associated with the GSM modem
(COM2 is the default)
5. Configure the Baud Rate to be 9600 Kbps
6. Use the following commands to verify GSM modem functionality :

4. GPS Receiver Installation

4.1. Hardware Setup


1. Set the new ADAM-4520 (item 12) to operate in RS-422 mode by adjusting the internal jumper
(SW2) as shown below:

2. Shut down the panel


3. Mount the ADAM-4520 on the DIN Rail above XCOM2.
4. Add a new group of terminal blocks (YBK2.5) below XCOM2, and name it as: XGPS.

5. Mount the GPS antenna outside the building


6. Route the antenna cable all the way to the panel
7. Connect the cores of the antenna cable to the new group (XGPS) as follow (left side only):

8. Add one terminal block to XCOM20 below the second terminal block, and one below the forth
terminal block with shorting links as shown below (highlighted):

9. Following the above diagram, make the required connections between the new ADAM-4520,
XGPS terminal block (GPS), and XCOM20.
10. Using RS485 cable (item 24), connect the ADAM-4520 to the XGPS terminal block as shown in
figure 5.
11. Using yellow/green wire, connect XGPS:5 to panel ground.
12. Using the serial cable, connect the ADAM-4520 to the DCU PC through COM3 port as shown
below (make sure to route the cable through the raceway & spiral):

13. Switch ON the panel


14. Make sure that the ADAM-4520 is turned ON (The front LED should be blinking in RED color).
15. Return everything back to its original condition.

4.2. Software Setup

1. Install the GPS time synchronization service by double clicking on the file: tardis2000.exe and
don’t run the software after installation.
2. Go to the following directory C:\Windows\System32 and look for the file named: tardisnt.exe
3. Right click on the file, and choose properties.
4. Go to the Compatibility tab and change the following:
o Under Compatibility mode, check the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for:
o From the drop down list, select “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
o Under Privilege level, check the box “Run this program as an adminsistrator”
o Click OK
5. Go to Control Panel, and double click on “Tardis 2000”
6. A warning message appears. From the option available, select “Allow Windows Time service to
run but stop it setting the time”
7. Uncheck the option “Allow NTP protocol if Windows SP2 firewall active”
8. Click OK. The tool configuration GUI will appear.
9. Go to the Main tap and change the following:
o Under the list of servers, click on the “Clear All” button. A confirmation message
appears, click Yes.
o Then, click on “Add” button
o Select the protocol to be: NMEA GPS device connected to serial port
o Select Address to be: COM3
o Specify the name to be: GPS Receiver
o Click OK
o Then click Apply
10. Go to the General tab, make sure that nothing is checked.
11. Go to the Setting the time tab, and change the following:
o Check on the option: Set the time
o Slide the Minimum correction allowed to the far left (Until the word: Anything goes
appears)

o Slide the Maximum correction allowed to the far left (Until the word Until the word:
Anything goes appears)
o Slide the How often time is set to the far left (Until Every minute word appears)
o Uncheck the box: Adjust automatically
o Uncheck the box: Adjust clock frequency
o Click Apply
12. Go to the Broadcast NTP/NTP tap and do the following:
o Delete all addresses available
o Uncheck all options in this tab
o Click Apply
13. Go to GPS tap, and make sure that the speed is set to 4800
14. Go to Alerts tap, and make sure that nothing is checked/set.
15. Click Apply, then OK.
16. Right click on Computer icon on desktop, and select Manage
17. From the tree view on the left, select Services and Applications
18. Double click on Services on the right
19. Look for the service named: Tardis Time Service
20. Right click on the service and select Properties
21. Make sure that the Startup type option is set to: Automatic
22. Start the service by clicking on the start button, then click OK.
23. Change the PC data and time, and check if it is corrected automatically after one minute.
24. After making sure that the tool is working fine, go to back to step 11 and change the “How
often time is set to every 24 hours.
25. Return everything back to its original condition.
