7.7.3 Class A regulator performance

Over the full range of inlet pressure p1min to p1max and over the whole gas rate range from qmax to qmin,
the outlet pressure variation from the outlet setting pressure shall not exceed the values given in
Table 4 or ± 1 mbar, whichever is the greater. The declared minimum flow rate qmin shall not exceed
10 % of qmax.

7.7.4 Test for class A regulators

Class A regulators shall be tested by measuring the outlet pressure p2 with variation of the inlet
pressure p1 and of the flow rate q., as follows:

a) In order to adjust the outlet setting pressure of the pressure regulator, set the outlet control tap to
obtain a flow rate of 0,5 qmax (or any other value declared by the manufacturer). For adjustable
pressure regulators, adjust the outlet setting pressure to the maximum value (p2max), the inlet
pressure p1 being the nominal pressure (or respectively any other value declared by the
manufacturer).

Once the outlet setting pressure has been set, there shall be no further adjustment of the
pressure regulator.

b) Vary the inlet pressure p1 from the nominal pressure over the minimum (p1min) to the maximum
value (p1max) and back to p1min, and record the outlet pressure p2 for, at least, 5 values of p1 in
each direction, without resetting the flow rate.

c) With inlet pressure p1min kept constant, vary the flow rate from qmax to qmin and back by using the
outlet control tap and record the outlet pressure p2 for, at least, 5 values of q in each case.

Ensure that there is no change of the inlet pressure during the whole time of this procedure.

d) Readjust the inlet pressure from p1min to p1max and then vary the flow rate from qmax to qmin (as in
step (c)).

e) For adjustable pressure regulators, repeat steps (b) to (d) after the outlet setting pressure has
been readjusted according to step (a) to the value p2min.

7.7.5 Class B regulator performance

For any change of inlet pressure within the range of inlet pressure p1min to p1max at any flow rate within
the declared flow range qmin to qmax, the outlet pressure variation from the outlet setting pressure shall
not exceed the values given in Table 4 or ± 1 mbar, whichever is the greater.

For any change of flow rate within the declared range of flow rate qmin to qmax at any inlet pressure
within the permissible inlet pressure range pmin to pmax, the outlet pressure variation from the outlet
setting pressure shall not exceed the values given in Table 4 or ± 1 mbar, whichever is the greater.

7.7.6 Test for class B regulators

Class B regulators shall be tested by measuring the outlet pressure p2 with variation of the inlet
pressure p1 and of the flow rate q, as follows:

a) In order to adjust the outlet setting pressure of the pressure regulator, set the flow rate to qmax by
adjusting the outlet control tap. For adjustable pressure regulators, adjust the outlet setting
pressure to the maximum value (p2max), the inlet pressure p1 being the nominal pressure (or
another value declared by the manufacturer).

Once the outlet setting pressure has been set, there shall be no further adjustment of the
pressure regulator.

b) Vary the inlet pressure p1 from the nominal pressure over the minimum (p1min) to the maximum
value (p1max) and back to the minimum value and record the outlet pressure p2 for, at least 5
values of p1 in each direction, without resetting the flow rate.

c) With inlet pressure p1min kept constant, readjust the flow rate qmax by using the outlet control tap
without any other adjustment of the previously set value of the outlet pressure to qmin.

d) Repeat the test according to step (b).

e) For adjustable pressure regulators, readjust the outlet setting pressure in accordance with a) to
the value p2min.and repeat steps (b) to (d).

7.7.7 Class C regulator performance

For any change of inlet pressure within the range of inlet pressure p1min to p1max at any flow rate within
the manufacturers declared flow range qmin to qmax, the outlet pressure variation from the outlet setting
pressure shall not exceed the values given in Table 4 or ± 1 mbar, whichever is the greater.

7.7.8 Test for class C regulators

Class C regulators shall be tested by measuring the outlet pressure p2 with variation of the inlet
pressure, as follows:

regulator.

b) Vary the inlet pressure p1 to the minimum value (p1min) to the maximum value (p1max) and back to
the minimum value and record the outlet pressure p2 for, at least 5 values of p1 in each direction,
without resetting the flow rate.

c) By means of the outlet control, adjust the flow rate to qmin, the outlet setting pressure readjusted
as in step (a).

d) Repeat the test according to step (b).

e) For adjustable pressure regulators, readjust the outlet setting pressure in accordance with a) to
the value p2min.and repeat steps (b) to (d).

7.7.9 Pressure drop requirements

The pressure drop measured by the method specified in 7.7.10 shall not exceed the manufacturer's
declaration by more than +10 %.

7.7.10 Pressure drop tests

Adjust the inlet pressure p1 to 1 mbar less than the value of the outlet pressure obtained at minimum
inlet pressure and at maximum flow. The pressure regulator valve shall then be fully open.

Measure the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet pressures under these conditions.

For pressure regulators which may be set over a range, measure the pressure difference for the
lowest setting pressure.

7.7.11 Durability of performance requirements

The leak tightness and performance shall remain within the limits specified in 7.2 and 7.7 respectively
after testing in accordance with 7.7.12.

7.7.12 Test for durability of performance

Position the pressure regulator in a temperature controlled chamber with an air supply at ambient
temperature and at the maximum inlet pressure declared by the manufacturer. With a quick acting
shut off valve both upstream and downstream as shown in Figure 1 connect the valves to a suitable
time switch so that as one opens the other closes with a complete cycle every 10 s.

The test consists of 50 000 cycles, in each of which the diaphragm is fully flexed and the valve is held
on its seat for at least 5 s.

Of the 50 000 cycles:

a) 25 000 cycles are with the pressure regulator environment at the maximum ambient temperature
declared by the manufacturer but at least 60 °C and

b) 25 000 cycles are with the pressure regulator environment at the minimum ambient temperature
declared by the manufacturer but at most 0 °C.
