Topic/Title Multiple Alleles (Blood TYPE)

Grade Level Grade 9

Time Allotment 60 Minutes
Prepared By Angelita A. Meneses
School San Simon High School
Learning Competencies
At the of the cycle, students should be able to:
1. Define and explain multiple Alleles
2. Practice and solve problem for multiple Alleles(Blood Type)
3. Appreciate the importance of Multiple Alleles in terms of blood typing
ELICIT Materials
1. Ask the students: What can you understand SAMPLE PROBLEM FOR
with codominance wihich is another example CODOMINANCE
of non-mendelian pattern of inheritance?
2. Give a sample problem for codominance

In cattle
when a red bull (RR) is mated with white (WW) cow
the offspring are Roan (RW) a blending of red and
white. Mate a red bull with a Roan cow.
 Show the P1
 The Punnett Square
 The Genotypic ration
 The phenotypic Ratio

ENGAGE
Show a picture of:
1. A nurse getting blood sample from a patient Images

Poster

2. A medical technician testing for the blood type

3. Key Questions:
a. Do you know your blood type?
b. What is your blood type?
c. What are your parent’s blood types?
EXPLORE
Visual Aids
Aim: Infer the unknown phenotypes of individuals on
the basis of the known phenotypes of their family
members
Materials:

Instruction:
Show the possible alleles that can be found in each
offspring and write the blood type of each offspring.

EXPLAIN
Let the students answer the given activity through Evaluation notebook
board work
ELABORATE
Multiple Alleles Video Presentation
When more than two alleles control the inheritance of
a character

In Human, there are four blood types:

A, B, AB, O

Blood type is controlled by three alleles: A, B, O

Blood type O is recessive, two O alleles must be
present for a person to have type O blood.

A and B are codominance. If a person receives an A

allele and a B allele, their blood type is type AB.

EVALUATE
To assess the students, the teacher will give the Evaluation notebook for the students
students blood typing problems.

Direction: Solve problems for multiple alleles.

1. What types of offspring might be expected if
one parent has type AB blood and the other
parent is heterozygous for type A blood?
2. A man who is heterozygous Type A marries a
woman who is heterozygous Type B. What are
the possible phenotype and genotypes of their
children?
EXTEND
The student will answer the following questions: Assignment Notebook
1. Suppose a type AB patient needs blood
transfusion, which blood donation should NOT
be given to him
2. Explain how blood typing is important before a
transfusion?
