Enhance Healthy and Safe Learning Environment

Healthy and safe learning environment are the main factors that contribute to the learning
of students. It is a difficult task to provide a healthy and safe learning environment for students.
In addition to feeling physically and mentally safe, students also need to feel emotional and
intellectually secure. Students are more likely to succeed academically and graduate from school
if they feel comfortable and secure in their classroom. In attaining healthy and safe learning
environment, five key factors can be attained at schools like; avoiding accidents, creating a
welcoming learning environment, creating limits, promoting healthy behaviors, and helping
individual students.

First, in avoiding accidents, although it should be simple to design a classroom and

learning space that is safe for the environment, many risks are simple to ignore until an accident
happens. The classrooms physical layout is determined by the age group being taught; as a
teacher, familiarize yourself with the developmental capabilities of your age group and make
plans accordingly. For instance, while sharp scissors are necessary in the art department of a high
school, they are inappropriate in preschool classroom. Since some preschoolers are still
developing their big motor skills and may trip and fall frequently, teachers in a preschool
classroom should steer clear of furniture with sharp edges. Additionally, as a teacher, think about
the particular students you are teaching. Don’t be afraid to adjust your classroom as needed;

Second, when students are at ease and feel safe, they study more effectively. Make the
students feel at home by spending time getting to know them. Encourage goodwill among
students by organizing group activities that promotes consideration for others. Students should
be made aware that bullying is not acceptable and you should not allow them to make fun or
tease one another. Make sure that your classroom is a place where students feel free to express
their ideas, try new concepts, and make the mistakes that are a necessary part of learning;

Third, for students to feel safe and secure enough to explore their surroundings,
boundaries are necessary. Making rules is one approach to establish limits in the classroom.
Student’s conduct in the classroom and interactions with their peers should be governed by rules.
Your rules will be based on the students you educate. Students won’t follow rules they feel are
arbitrary, so take the time to explain classroom regulations and the reasoning behind them. Make
sure the rules are obvious and posted in the classroom, along with the penalties for breaking
them;

Fourth, students who are in better physical health study more effectively. By emphasizing
the value of healthy eating and activity to your students, you may promote excellent health in the
classroom. Get your kids up and moving throughout lessons as much as you can. Show others
how to live a healthy lifestyle by staying active and eating well. Encourage your students to get
enough sleep, and explain to parents how leading a healthy lifestyle can improve academic
performance; and lastly
It is critical to establish a rapport with your students so that you can identify those who
might require assistance. Try to chat to the students and, if necessary, contact parents if you
observe that they are unhappy, depressed, or furious. Inform your principal and get in touch with
the proper authorities, such as the police or counselors, if a student exhibits aggressive or
otherwise upsetting behaviors or acts. Every school ought to have policies in place for dealing
with such circumstances; if yours doesn't, speak with your principal and the school board to urge
the establishment of such policies.

It is indeed important to promote an enhanced healthy and safe learning environments as

this will provide students the self-assurance they need to express their opinions, beliefs, and
attitudes without worrying about getting unfavorable feedback from their classmates. Teachers
can handle talks on delicate topics with more assurance when the classroom is a safe place with a
clear limit.
