Kshetrayya
Ksh'etrayya ' composed five Pada-s callled 'Pancharatnamulou' at the behest Vijaya Raghava of
Tanjavur' - Subharaama Deekshitulu notes^
Karvetinagar govindasamayya
The Pancharatna Varna-s are very important compositions among the creations of
Govindasaamayya. These are in Mohana, Kedara Goula, Mukhaari, Naatakuranji and Navaroj raaga-s.
Veena Raamaanujayya mentions that Veena Varadayya has written the Saptaalankaara Saahitya-s.
The mudra of Veena varadayya is Vijaya varada. He has written the group compositions

He has composed several Samudayakritis (Group Kritis) such as Ghana Raga Pancharatna, kritis and
also other
Pancha ratna groups like, Kovur, Lalgudi, Tiruvattiyur and Srirangam Pancharatna.
He has also composed the groups of Utsava Sampradaya kritis, Divyanama Sankirtanas, Upachara
Kritis, ” There are 78 compositions in the group called Divyanama kirtanas,
the particular composition indented for singing along with these upacharas are known as Utava
Sampradaya kirtana. They are twenty four in number exclusive of one “choornika”.

A few examples are Navagraha Kritis (Astrology), Kamalamba Navavarana (Tantra Shastra),
Panchabhuta linga kritis (Hindu Philosphy), Tyagaraja Vibhakti Kritis (yoga) etc., He has also
composed Manipravalas and beautiful Ragamalikas.Apart from the musical felicity, we see his
moulding of Sanskrit phrases, grammatical variations as in Vibhakti kritis, temple and deity depiction
of his pilgrimage, systematic organization of kritis into Sthala or Deity groups, even a sub-group of
ragas with similar ending names, all these reveal a person who was thorough and organized in
putting his theory into practice.

Every author claims that ShyAmA ShAstri composed “nine” songs called navaratnamALika on
Goddess mInAkSi of Madhurai,

One is on MuddukumAra of VaidIshvaran kOil, and the other, a varNam, is on KA~nci VaradarAja.
The remaining 7 songs are on DEvi in general (with no specific deity in mind). One of them is a
ma”ngaLm piece on DEvi.

He composed a variety of compositions like Varna, Kriti, Jawali, Tillana, Bhajans in many languages
and North Indian musical forms like Dhrupad, Khyal etc. He was a great scholar and composed
musical operas like Kuchelopakhyana and Ajamilopakhyana.
