CuTea Milktea: Activity 1_ Prototyping

I. Abstract

This study is about prototyping where it helps the business to make a test for
their product and if the respondents or target customer suggest something they can
make a new version or opportunity to improve it before launching in the market. This
prototyping is such a big help for every business because it discover early the
problems and make a way on it also it helps to estimate the cost, time consumed and
materials needed. Some of the business do this prototyping because it helps them to
understand the problem and reasons why it need to implement their product and also
to test it and make an improvement.

The result of this prototyping will have a big impact with thus business before it
launch to the market because the owner will get ideas on what their target customer
wants like their sense of taste, not all of them have the same sense of taste in
sweetness especially in this milktea business wherein it have a different target
customer which is children who wants sweet and teenagers don’t like too much sweet
so it needs first to ask the level sugar they want before making their order in able for
them to satisfy their sense of taste. Also the appearance of this business is important
in having a profit wherein teenagers want to have a beautiful servings that can post on
their social media and called it “instagramable”. Based on their answer in
texture/mouth-feel there are some improvements like the mixture of all the ingredients
and stir it well.

In this study conducted it signifies the importance of prototyping in business in


able for them to achieve its goal in launching the product. In business it is not only
about how business run or its goal itself but it is also about the customer to satisfy their
expectation in product they purchase. This prototyping helps the customer satisfaction
through serving their wants by the business they choose to support, in business the
most important factor is customer and business owner who support each other through
giving what they wants and needs.

II. Introduction

Background of the Study

One of the important thing in business is to attract the customer in particular


product that have. Prototyping is one of the best process that can do to experiment

and get some ideas into example to a real product. It gives an idea to the business
owner to capture some concepts based from the test on users and with that it can
validate the right designs or products that will release. According to some market
research, through analyzing some features that attract the target audience it should
help to address the customers need and entrepreneurs can provide them. Prototyping
has a lot of benefits in business wherein it helps to determine early the problems of
every product or services. It can also help to estimate the cost of production and their
material requirements also the time it can consume.

Prototype gives an opportunity for the business to brings out the best product
through test the current designs to users and know their thinking and feel about the
product. Prototyping also is not only about visual representation of the product but it
is about determining the improvements needed, it is also fine-tune to the idea if the
business once it brought to life.

In business it needs to align the prototype into the goal because sometimes the
prototyping result is unrealistic to do because of the budget and lack of materials
needed. So it needs to identify first the audience and consider the right people who
can test the product and make sure that it is connected with the target customer of the
business plan. After all the test it will identify the desired outcome of the prototype and
make sure that it us related with the business goal and make sure that the
improvement are align to the budget that have.

Statement of the Research Problem and Objectives

This study aimed to conduct comments and suggestions of customer about


milktea through prototyping the product. Its goal is to answer the following questions
about milktea.

1. How may the taste of the milktea affect the profit of the business?
2. How may the appearance affect its customer willingness to buy?
3. How does the blend of sweetness and bitterness of milktea affect customers’
satisfaction?

Pursuing the problem that prototype conducted is important to have an


objectives that can help the business achieve its goal. To help the business gain more
profit, business should need to do what customers suggestions and comments about

the taste of milktea. Nowadays, the appearance of every product is important because
for some customers like teenagers it needs to have a beautiful appearance of every
milktea servings or it may called “instagramable” wherein it can affect their willingness
to buy. Lastly is the blend of sweetness and bitterness of milktea is important because
it needs satisfaction to the customer and with prototyping the customers’ comments
and suggestions can get easily and do for the success of business.

Significance of the Study

This research significance is to know what the importance of prototyping is and


how it works in business especially before launching it, in this study it significance
everyone who give time and make an effort to do this activity. For those entrepreneur,
staff and future entrepreneur it helps them to know the comments and suggestions of
their target customer.

Entrepreneur: This study aimed to help them to know what they should need to do
before implementing business.

Staff: It guided them on how to find a way to give satisfaction to their customer and
have an idea on how they should treat a customer and give what they wants.

Future Entrepreneur: It helped them to have an opportunity of developing and testing


their product before implementing.

Scopes and Limitations

This study limits for all entrepreneur to have an idea how important the
prototyping is in their business and how prototyping works in their business world. This
prototyping is about CuTea milktea and its target customer who give importance in this
business to satisfy their wants through serving and giving the product that they want.
This study focus on 30 respondents which is children and teenager from the location
near in the area where the business will launch.

III. Methodology

The method used in conducting this prototyping of CuTea milktea is through


taste test wherein the owner give a particular product to 15 teenager and 15 children
because in the market research they are the target customer. After the taste test they
should need to answer the following questions given in the questionnaire in able for

the owner to know their comments and suggestions or their sensory evaluation about
the product. In questionnaire it has two phases wherein in the 1st phase hedonic rating
scale answer by the teenagers and the 2nd phase facial hedonic rating scale for
children because it has an emoticon wherein it gets their attention.

In this way the owner will know if the taste of the product is match with sense
of taste of the target customer while conducting the taste it will also need to evaluate
the appearance of the product as one of the sensory evaluation in the questionnaire,
in this characteristics the main target customer is the teenager wherein they should
need to decide if the appearance of the product is approve in their taste and if it can
called “instagramable”.

Also it needs to evaluate the sweetness of the product wherein it is needed in


this milktea business, this characteristics should be helpful for the business to know if
the mixture is right and approved to the taste of the customer. One of the target
customer of this business is children wherein in the second phase facial hedonic rating
test for children sensory evaluation there is an emoticons that can get children’s
attention and make time to answer the questionnaire given while enjoying it and
drinking a sip of milktea.

IV. Analytical Results and Discussion

As a result of gathering information about sensory evaluation of milktea


conducted through prototyping wherein the owner give and present a milktea to the
target customer which is the teenagers and children. Based on their answer in
questionnaire given in 30 respondents wherein it is divided by 15 teenager who answer
the 1st phase hedonic rating scale and 15 respondents who answer the 2nd phase facial
hedonic rating scale for children. This 30 respondents is such a big help for this
business wherein the owner should have an idea on what it should need to do before
implementing business.

In 1st phase of hedonic rating scale sensory evaluation who answer by 15


teenagers and shows in the table below there are 6 respondents answer like a little
and 9 of them like a lot the appearance of milktea especially the Oreo puff of CuTea
milktea that has a beautiful servings which is love by the teenager because it can be
“instagramable”. In aroma there are 7 teenagers who answer like a lot and 8 is like a
little while in taste 10 out of 15 answer like a lot and 5 answer like a little. Out of 15

teenagers 8 of them answer like a lot in sweetness and 7 is like a little and lastly in
texture/mouth-feel 6 of the respondents answer like a lot and 9 is like a little.

The other 15 respondents of this study is children because they are also the
target customer of this business once it was implemented, they answer the 2 nd phase
facial hedonic rating test for children sensory evaluation test wherein this
questionnaire has an emoticon where it gets children attentions and makes children
enjoy while answering the questions. The owner also explains every emoticons and
questions wherein it gets 11 love for colour and 4 likes while in smell it gets 9 love and
6 likes. In taste it gets 12 love and 3 like, sweetness also gets 12 love and 3 likes and
lastly is the mouth-feel wherein it gets 9 love and 6 likes after getting all the answers
it helps get an idea for the business on what children wants in buying milktea.

In this hedonic rating scale evaluation test of children and teenager the owner
know the respondents comments about the product and based on their answer
conducted the milktea needs some improvement like in texture/mouth-feel wherein it
needs to make sure that all the powdered flavor and creamer are mix and stir well also
the pearl needs an improvement and ensure that it is not too soft and tough. In
sweetness, 75% of the respondents answer is good but there are some respondents
who don’t like it because all people have their own sense of taste especially in
sweetness wherein some people do not like sweet and some of them are teenagers
but in the other hand this business target customer is also children and based on their
answer they want sweet unlike teenagers so in this characteristics in need
improvement not in mixing but in asking the customer the sugar level that they want
through that the customer will feel their importance and for them to satisfy their sense
of taste. In appearance there are some respondents who answer that they like it and
some of them are not so in this characteristics make sure if the customer is teenager
because for them appearance is so much important for them to have a post in their
social media accounts and called it “instagramable” and for children this business have
an idea to give some colorful straw for them to enjoy their milktea.

In table below it shows the result of conducted prototyping activity in the 1st
phase sensory evaluation of this study, this result is consist of the points they give
according to their answer. In this hedonic rating scale its scored valued assigned is
5points for like a lot, 4points for like a little, 3 points for neither like nor dislike, 2points

for dislike a little and 1point for dislike a lot. It shows also the total score wherein it
added all the points that respondents give while in average score it solve through
dividing the total score into the number of testers or respondents and in this sensory
evaluation test it has a 15 respondents which is the teenagers.

This prototyping has a big role and importance for every business wherein it
helps the owner to know what their target customer comments and suggestions to
their product, in this prototyping it gives an opportunity for the business to make an
improvement of their product before launching in able for their customer to satisfy
especially in sense of taste, appearance, aroma and texture/mouth-feel of the product.
In business world its goal is to be successful and be known in the market but it needs
also the customer to achieve its goal so it is important to give significance for the
customer in able to feel that they are importance by the business that they choose to
support. Business needs supporting each other especially the owner and the customer
wherein it helps each other through giving the customer they want and expectation
and for the business to gain support from their customer.
