4. OBJETIVE
‘The purpose of this document is to establish the criteria for properly sizing the Medium
Voltage Switchgear (SG-50-301) and Low Voltage Motor Control Center (MC-50-401 to
406) to be installed in the Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Complex.
2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM
Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Complex, in Al-Jubail Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, shall to
construct a new Phenolics Plant which will include a electrical substation (SS50).
‘Substation #50 (SS50) will supply power to Phenol, Cumene & Acetone, BPA (North and
South) and Phenolics Tankage units; and will be electrically fed from existing Substation
754A, through Switchgears SG-75A-102 (34.5 kV) and ESG-75A-301 (4.16 kV).
The new Electrical Power Distribution System shall have a selective secondary
configuration, consisting of eight (8) 480V Motor Control Centers (EMC-50-410, MC-50-
401 to 408 and MC-50-409) and one (1) 4:16 kV Switchgear (SG-50-301).
Each 480V Motor Control Center (tags: MC-50-401 to 406) shall be fed by two (2) 3-
winding power transformers (tags. TX-50-401A/B to TX-50-403A/B) of 6/3/3 MVA and
34.5/0.48/0.48 kV, as describe below:
‘TX-50-401A and TX-50-401B to feeds: MC-50-401 and MC-50-402
‘TX-50-403A and TX-50-403B to feeds: MC-50-403 and MC-50-404
‘TX-50-402A and TX-50-402B to feeds: MC-50-405 and MC-50-408
‘The 3-windings power transformers mentioned above will be dimensioned for feed two
(2) 480 V Motor Control Center at the same time.
Emergency 480V Motor Control Center (EMC-50-410) shall be fed by two (2) power
transformers (ETX-50-410 A/B).of 3 MVA and 4.16/0.48 kV.
The 480V Motor Control Center MC-50-409, shall be connected radially to one (1) power
transformer of 1 MVA and 4.16/0.48 KV.

4, METHODOLOGY AND CALCULATION PREMISES
‘The Switchgear and Motors Control Centers should be sizing considering:
* Maximum and_peak demand is the sum of all continuously loads and 30 %
applied to intermittent loads (paragraph 7.3 from 000-658-0001).
* All substation equipment shall be sized initially with a minimum of 20 % spare
capacity for future growth (paragraph 5.3 from SES-E14-S02).
With peak current obtained according the previous premises, shall be selected the
MCC's and Switchgears Bus Ampacity (rating) taking the immediately superior
standard, and considering the agreements from de Owner.
5. SIZING MOTORS CONTROL CENTERS AND SWITCHGEAR
