Concept of vertex distance

INTRODUCTION
vertex distance is the distance from posterior surface of lens to the apex of
cornea ( ant surface of cornea ) to see the things clearly

Back vertex power is the distance of the second principal focus from the back
vertex of the lens.

Vertex distance affects the effective power of lens, especially in higher powered
(>4.00D) Rx

The standard vertex distance is 12mm

If the vertex distance is 10mm to see clearly if lens is brought closer i mean
8mm VD then rays will focus behind the retina and if we increase the VD then
rays will focus infront of retina .

VD changes in - lens
Increasing vertex distance - decreases the effective power of the lens

Decreasing vertex distance - Increases the effective power of the lens

VD changes in + lens
Increasing vertex distance - Increases the effective power of the lens

Decreasing vertex distance - Decreases the effective power of the lens

Vertex Compensation Power

Concept of vertex distance 1

DC= compensated power
DL = original lens power

d = chanage in vertex distance in meter

d we have to take the vertex difference of prev and new
