Gospel / Reading
Luke 18:1–8

Today’s Gospel is all a parable that Jesus told his disciples, a parable about the need for them to pray
always without becoming weary. Beginning the parable, Jesus told them there was a certain town judge
who neither feared God nor respected any human being. A widow in the same town used to come to the
judge saying, ‘Render a just decision for me against my adversary.’ For a long time, the judge was
unwilling. Still, he eventually thought that while it was true, he neither feared God nor respected any
human being. The widow kept bothering him, saying that he shall deliver a just decision for her lest she
ultimately comes to attack him. Then the Lord said, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says.
Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be
slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the
Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”
Reflection
In the Homily of Father Marvin, he emphasized the phrase "pray always." In Kapampangan as I quote
“Sukat manalangin parati, at eko mimina lub”. In the sermon, something affected me when He said,
"Ing mang pamangading paminsan - Minsan makakalingwan, 'yang pang parati?" It made me realize
that sometimes as individuals, we forget to pray. God wants us to say our prayers always. I feel like He
wants us to pray to Him always, as our prayers assure Him that we are still us, His children.

Sometimes I'm sure most of us have asked ourselves what the need for prayer is. After Father Marvin's
sermon, I answered the question as to why we must constantly pray. We are like the widow in the
Gospel, where the widow faced a hard-hearted judge. That is why it answers our question: "Why do we
have to pray always?" The answer to that question is that we face people who do not fear God or respect
human beings in our everyday life. Prayer helps us to be safe in our daily endeavors and allows us to
think clearly. It helps us to rationalize things on what is the right thing to do.

It would be a good thing if all the people on earth were good and if we shared the same values in life. If
all people on earth have a fear of God and if they respect other people, there won't be a need to pray
always. Unfortunately, it is not like we do not share the same values and beliefs. The judge in the Gospel
represents those who do not fear God and have no concern for those around them. These people are not
just scary but also awful; sometimes, they pass the vibes to us. They remove our kindness and peace of
mind.

Another answer has been made on the need for prayer because we become these people we hate. We
sometimes become hard-hearted.

Saying our prayer is not only when we are in our bedrooms, chapels, or churches. We should always
say our prayers, which is the means of expressing them. It means we should bring God in the form of
prayer in everything we do. Praying is not just about talking to God but also includes Him in our daily
struggles. Prayer is our way to God to come with us to face our life to its fullest extent.
If we have God, we can do and face everything.
