ASSIGNMENT 2
QUESTION 1:
Summarize the effect of the day of the week on bakery sales.
The above shown pivot table and line chart summarizes the average daily
number of each product sold on each day of the week. It is clear that the sales are
higher during the weekends, highest being Saturday followed by Sunday and
Friday and comparatively low during the weekdays. This might be because people
are more likely to go out to a bakery during weekends when they are free than on
the working days.
QUESTION 2:
Analyze Product Seasonality
This chart makes it evident that sales of smoothie go up during the months
from April to September. However, sales of other products show little seasonality.
The reason for spike in smoothie sales during summer is quite obvious as people
tend to drink more and keep their bodies cool as the temperature soars up.
QUESTION 3:
Analyze the Trend in Bakery Sales [compute and chart average daily sales for
each year]
The chart shows that sales of pies, cakes and smoothies are growing slowly
over the years when compared to the growth of sales of cookies and coffee which
also represents a big part of the overall sales.
QUESTION 4:
Analyzing the Effect of Promotions on Sales
From the table and chart, we can infer that sales are higher with promotions.
Especially for cookies, coffee and smoothies, we can see that average sales is
much higher with the influence of promotions. However, there can be other
factors affecting the sales, like how smoothies are sold more during summer,
seasonality here plays a huge role. Hence we can conclude only after considering
all the factors involved.
